Ray-Vin - International 2-30 60" $260 or $289 and it comes with the QD head (anyone have, use and recommend the QD head? Is it worth the extra $30?) Is the RAy-Vin a 1" diameter tube? or Creedmoor Deluxe Tripod www.creedmoorsports.com/store/product.php?productid=16253&cat=267&page=1 $176 (This one is only 3/4" tube or First Strike Standard scope stand www.first-strike-products.com/category.cfm?Category=14&CFID=3291782&CFTOKEN=66758390 $273 with the extra 12" tube to make it 60" (Anyone know what diameter their tubes are? Anyone use or recommend one of these? Which one would you guys recommend, and or do you have any other recommendations? Which one is the most stable? |

On the Ray-Vin, yes, a 1" dia tube, the QD is good IF you're going to take off anf put constantly, otherwise, no. As for the length,, just remember if you have a 45 deg scope , you can turn the scope to where you just bend slightly to see through, as you set your rifle on your seat/cart, so you don't need a full 60" 48 works for most people. I have no experience with the Creedmore or First Strike, but the companies are both top notch and I have no reason to think that they'd offer a scope stand that wasn't excellent. I have a Ray-vin, and I really like it. You can't really go wrong with any of them. If I was to make a suggestion though, I'd go with the Ray-vin Classic one piece 48" model. As far as stability, it depends on what scope you're gonna hang on it. If you've got a big scope, like a Kowa 821 or a Leica 77, you need a stout stand to hang it off of. I have the Ray-vin 48" one piece Classic model, with a Kowa 661 and it's rock solid in all but the most gusty conditions. The taller stands tend to be more squirrelly with the scope mounted up higher. |

Thanks for all the input guys! I went ahead and ordered the Ray-Vin but with a 24" base tube and a 30" top tube. A compromise between the 60" and the 48" After all the input and research I opted for the Ray-Vin for the following reasons: 1. I e-mailed First Strike with questions and have yet to hear from them. 2. I am currently OCONUS and had e-mailed Ray-Vin with questions so it was the middle of the night in the US and I got almost an immediate response. I guess they never sleep! All subsequent e-mails received the same level of excellent immediate response! Sometimes these days it is hard to find that kind of Customer Service. 3. I like the simplicity and versatility of the Ray-Vin head. 4. Ray-Vin web-site has a Comparison Page for both the stand and the head with positive statements about competitors products. 5. The Creedmoor is nice but if you want a 1" tube comparable to the Ray-Vin or the First Strike, you have to spend $360 for the Big Blue. The Creedmoor head is very nice but a lot more complex with its 4 adjustments. The Deluxe model is only $176, but it has 3/4" tubes and I am going to be mounting an 82 mm objective scope on it, so ??? I hope I won't be disappointed in my choice. Now I need to save up for a cart, shooting jacket, and glove. Can't wait to get back home and attend the Service Rifle Clinic the 26th of this month P |
