I was watching a You-Tube Video of a Service Rifle match and the Shooter that was primarily being videoed had the butt of the rifle against his shoulder. Another that was in the video was obviously resting the butt of the rifle on top of his shoulder. I re-read the NRA rules and there is a little ambiguity. Rule 5-3 states: "In all positions except standing (Rule 5-12)..." "In the standing position, the butt of the rifle may be held against the upper arm" Rule 5-12 states: "The rifle will be supported by both hands, the cheek and one shoulder and upper arm." It gives a definition of upper arm but does not elaborate on shoulder. Then further it states: "The butt of the rifle must be on the outside of the coat." It seems to me that resting the butt of the rifle on top of the shoulder would take away from or be against the spirit of the rule of "artificial support!" Am I missing something? What say you guys? Thanks for the link to that string. I signed up for that forum sometime ago and I refer to it infrequently. Thanks for your help! |
