I find it rather strange that this is an AR-15 site and nobody has thought to mention that, for the second straight year, the NRA National Highpower Championship has been won by Carl Bernosky using an AR-15 match rifle. I was fortunate enough to be squadded with Carl on the final day. A very gracious and easy going guy and a deserving champion. Congratulations, Carl Bernosky, 2008 National Highpower Champion. Congrats Carl! Being from Pa. I have met him and I am proud of his accomplishments. If he didn't have back problems in his past, IMHO, he would have been the National Champion for many years past and now that he is healthy, onto the future! No BS intended but I hope that those in charge at Camp Perry don't go with the same target carrier manufacturer that they utilized on Viale Range when they "modernize" Rodriguez Range! It will take a body builder teenager to compete and win in the Nationals! Dave McGrath |
You should try Bisley ![]() The carriers move like molasses in winter and weigh a ton More of this required ![]() Actually looking at the results and seeing such esteemed company makes me wish that I could shoot with those guys more often than is possible Mark |
I just received my American Rifleman. Carl Bernosky also placed third in the NRA Bianchi Cup Action Pistol Match. That's pretty dang incredible to be so cross discipline! |
| Last year Carl Bernosky shot two "would have been national records if the match was Registered" instead of Approved at his home range at New Holland, PA. This year they put Registered sanctions on 3 or 4 of them in the event that he breaks the record again, so that it will count. I know last year he used a WOA upper to win. I am not sure what he used this year. I think he was shooting a version of an Improved 243 Win, made by Joe Hendricks. I shot in a match at the end of July with Joe Hendricks, who won by the way, and he was telling me that Carl Bernosky was using his hot 6mm creation, but don't remember what he called it, and don't know if that is what Carl Bernosky was using at Camp Perry this year. Carl Bernosky has been getting it done for years! |
We had every porta potty at Perry staked out, waiting to get candid photos of some weasel from PA., and the bostich didn't show! Boy, is that weasel in trouble next year! We will have double the number of photogs following a certain PA weasel! |
This is a little conflicting! If Carl builds Palma rifles and does precision gunsmithing then why does he shoot a WOA upper? Oh well, don't mean beans. Anyway, Carl is just a great shooter. Why I'll bet he could shoot an old Italian Carcano with decent sights, trigger and win the Nationals! Congrats to Carl, the top shooter from Pa. of all time and quite possibly the entire nation! Dave, Not conflicting at all really. The people that are behind the 6mm Hagar wanted Carl to try the caliber/rifle combo so he got a rig and tried it, he realised he liked it and has been shooting it since. Up until that time Carl had zero interest in AR15s as he was always a bolt gun shooter. john |
Clint, It was a tough choice not going to Perry this year, but I had some very important stuff on the home front to take care of and that meant taking the family on a decent vacation. For the first time in a LONG time i put them first and it was long overdue. John |
Carl did shoot an 800-41x at the Oct. match at New Holland. This is the only match where he could have set a national record. The match results with a small article about Carl shooting a 800-41x were sent to Shooting Sports USA to be printed in the Score Sheet section of the magazine. It was never published. In addition to Carl, there are several other top shooters that shoot at New Holland capable of setting national records. When you shoot a 792-32x and only take 3rd place, you know the competition is tough. As much as Joe Hendricks would like to see Carl using the 6CM, I think Carl will be using the 6mm Hagar for a little while longer as it has served him well for the past two seasons. |
