Which Highpower rules are there which you would like to see eliminated or added? .30 caliber rule--lame, you shoot a .223, you get a .223 hole. I keep hearing noise about this one coming back. BOB SLED--these should be ILLEGAL for service rifle Flash Hider, Bayonet Lug--should be required if allowed by state law. Alibis--Your junk breaks on the line? Come back next time with a functioning rifle. (Just for saying this, I'll probably have a rifle malfuntion next match!)

Ampn; I would have to agree with you on the alibi's. Most I see are ammo related or just plain neglect of the rifle's internal parts. IMHO, if you come to the line flirting with having malfunctions, well you will just have to correct "your" problem when you get home! Why should all those who have themselves squared away have to endure alibi's. The matches are too long as it is, especially at Camp Perry! However, alibi's should be allowed for range problems like some knucklehead pulling a competitors target down during a rapid fire string. Dave McGrath |

What is the ".30 caliber rule"? I agree with you about the alibis. I shoot highpower and tactical matches. If your equipment malfunctions in a tactical match, you need to deal with it in the time allotted (or on the clock as the case may be) and deal with the consequences. High power should be the same way. As far as the bayonet lug and flash hider, I don't agree. I bought my NM during the national ban. I shouldn't have to add a bayonet lug and flash hider on it now. |

The .30 cal. rule stated that a hole made by a .223 would be measured as if it was .308 in diam. They even made scoring pins that were .223 but had a .308 circle for score. A BAD rule in MHO. I don't support the flash hider, bayonet lug requirement. Either way should be fine. I don't use the bob sled. I do use a mag with a single load (senior moment) devise installed. Don't care one way or the other. Again I can't see what the advantage would be. Alibis. When something goes wrong I tend to try and get it fixed and get back in the game. New shooters seem to need them more until they learn the game. There may be some safety to having them raise their hand when something goes wrong rather than rolling around with a loaded rifle trying to get it shooting again. |

I don't like alibis. Every one I've had was my fault, no one else should have to suffer for my mistake. Range alibis, on the other hand, happen out of our control and should be allowed. Flash hiders/bayo lugs required, that I'm not so sure about. If you want one, great, if you don't, fine. Same goes with SLEDs. I dunno why these should be illegal for a service rifle, even though I don't use one myself. |

Quintin; I am with you brother! On the bayo lug and/or the flash hider, there are some states like N.J. that don't allow them. The competitors in these states must remain politically correct. Ha! These states seem to think Bill Clinton is still President and that bayonet crimes are down since the ban .I have the bayonet lug and FH on all my AR's and other military rifles like the M1 Garand, M1 carbine and the M1A simply because they are legal in Pa. and that these rifles look "naked" without them Dave McGrath |

I guess if I traveled somewhere that still had a ban, I would think differently about flash hider/lug. I just think that a service rifle should look like a service rifle. I realize that we have to adapt our game to conform to changing laws otherwise it won't survive. The BOB SLED thing is not a magazine. It's a solid piece of plastic. At some point, they might as well just have one category, not separate match/service. In retrospect, if these are the only things I can find to complain about, then I really shouldn't. |
Sure would. First I can see Stag Arms selling more of their lefty uppers. Oh well, I would have no problem with that but someone many years ago seemed to have enough pull to have that "no external" modifications from the standard service rifle rule carved into stone[://. Probably a rule change here would best be left alone. BTW, I know of several lefties in high power that have no problem shooting the AR really well or for that matter the M1 and the 1903 Springfield! On the AR, modification of the ejector spring really improves shooting for the left handers. Dave McGrath |
I could care less either way, but it seems that most of the opposition to it are .30 shooters who think it further erodes the competiveness of their chosen rifle (which if you really think about it ought to be removed as valid Service Rifles anyway -- CA excluded due to their AWB ban) or the "I can just eyeball 'em crowd" who'd rather not take the time to plug close shots.
Then so should be Bob Jones sights, synthetic slings, etc. As a matter of fact, when was the last time Uncle Sam issued canvas web slings? I don't use a SLED but I don't see the harm in any of it.
Explain that one to the guy who bought his M1A or AR during the ban. I suspect that he won't be amused when you suggest that he shoot in the Match Rifle class.
The last thing I want is some guy floppin' around in position trying to clear a jam during a rapid fire. If in clearing the rifle he manages to send a round over a berm that knocks a kid off a tricycle 2.5 miles down range, trust me, the ten minutes that if would've taken to have him shoot the alibi will look cheap when the local authorities show up to shutter the range and confiscate the rifles and ammo of the competitors... |
The class is Service Rifle. When the Services adopt left handed rifles they can be permitted. You will see Hell freeze over first. It seems all US weapons are "Right Handed" without even considering left handers. Dave's potty trained ejector is a Lefty's dream.

It would be nice if matches start on time and could end at 12:00, somehow. and anyone who cannot hit the black will never be allowed to complain about slow pit service and, if they do, will be taken out back and get beaten and flogged with empty Diet Coke cans. EDIT: Maybe some exceptions should be explicitly stated. AR-15's are allowed a float tube which is a visible modification from the outside, as well as the sling loop and how it's attached. I hope all is well. |
It's funny how 9, 10s, and Xs speed up target service. I've only been griped at a couple times and yeah, it was 'cause I had to move the disc and spotter all over the target. ETA: I'm kinda confused about the issue with the BOB SLED. I don't understand what the deal about it is. I've got one, and it works just like my single-shot magazine. |
