How do you deal with it?

Saturday i shot a reduced course and it was brutal.  Heat and humidity so high my scope was useless, shot the match based on my zeros for 100 yards.  sweat was terrible.  Shooting glasses(Oakley M frames) fogged terribly so I went without.  hands were soaked, face was soaked, sight picture was crap...

Not much i figured I would be able to do.  Next t ime I'll try a headband soaked in icewater..

There was a 200 yard reduced course on Sunday but I was tired out from Saturday and didnt go.  A few guys were talking that it is good conditioning to shoot in the heat and it helps with your game so im thinking about how to deal with it..

Well Val, summer arrived too quick for the Pennsylvania shooters to deal with the heat we experienced this past weekend. Hell's bells, I wore a sweatshirt during the complete match just two weeks ago. High 50's to low 60's and rain gave way to hot humid weather in the low 90's this past weekend. No time to adjust!

It's true, one has to condition himself to the climate he shoots in. Humid weather is the worst to deal with! That's my opinion and experience on the firing line.

It's really hard on the senior shooters. I am one of them now but my 39 years in the steel mill was my conditioner!

One tip is this. Stay hydrated. Meaning, if you are not visiting the port-a-Sh&ters on a regular basis in hot weather, your going to be in serious trouble. Maybe a stay in the hospital!

Drinks like Gator Aide can help but cool water and lots of it is best.

I wouldn't know how to shoot in the cold weather!

I use a towel wet in my cooler water continuously when it's hot. It seems that if I keep my face and neck cool the rest doesn't bother me much.

Here are some tips.

Boonie hat - Baseball hat wont protect you as well as a boonie

Cooling bandana.

Antiperspirant on your forehead.

Small microfiber towel will do a great job absorbing sweat.

Long sleeve shirt made out of a wicking fabric. Underarmor comes to mind.

A golf umbrella. Ya you can't use it when your on the line, but you can use it when you are scoring. If you stay out of the heat instead of baking in it your better off as the day wears on. At a match two years ago I had people asking to borrow it when I shot because is was so much cooler under it when they were scoring.

lots of water the day before and continue to drink more before and during the match.
One of those cool wraps with the gell pellets in them to put around your neck. I will keep it in some cool water in a small tupperware in my ice box or cooler. keep in the shade when you can. Also a under armour shirt works wonders. heat gear or loose gear is the way to go.

I was going to shoot the EIC match at Oakridge Friday but figured I had better not due to the heat. The meds I am taking for my back and heat do not mix.
