I am looking at upgrading my scope stand.  What is the does the group prefer.  The saddle mount, or theaded mount.  I beleive giraud makes one that threads and swivels.  My scope does not have the rotating band.  your opinions on the pros and cons of each would be apprecaited.  Thanks, Tim

If your scope doesn't swivel, then look at the Ray-Vin stand and head,,, with it, it doesn't need to.
Also, if you are like most people, OH, scope to the right, sitting and prone, on the left
(assuming you are right handed or opposit if you are left) the Ray-Vin is easy to flip and swivel to the other side. Others won't do that that easy.

If your scope doesn't swivel but has a 45 degree eyepiece get a saddle mount.

I don't have my own yet, but I've borrowed a bunch from others. The one I used that was the easiest to get it where I wanted it was a Ray-Vin. It was also one of the most stable. So, I'd go with that one. (Actually, I did go with that one... bought one used off the EE... I think it's supposed to get here Thursday; I can't wait to play with it.)

I haven't used the Creedmoor, but I wasn't all that impressed with the Champions stand. There were a few other bipod versions I borrowed that weren't too impressive, either. Then again, they worked just fine (though not quite as well) and are cheaper.

Depending on what you want to spend.
Best advice is +1 for above Ray Vinn
Champions Choice with the articulating mount.  It will do what you need.  Go with the 3/4 inch tubes.
The saddle will handle just about anything but realize dismounting not as easy.

Others
Creedmoor blue monster $$$
Giraud

Hope this is a start

Ok  I am convinced that the Ray-vin is the way to go.  However, in the interest of satisfing my inner tightwad.  Does anyone have any experience with this stand from Creedmoor?

They look promising and  they must be new as they are not in last years catalog.

Thanks gentlemen for your replies.  Tim

The tripod stand would probably be alright, but I don't have any first hand experience with it.  At that price point though, you're only about $20 away from a 48" Ray-Vin Classic one piece model (that's the one I use, BTW, rock solid and top flight quality).

The bipod stand would be probably be alright too, they can get a little squirrelly with a Hubble sized scope like an 82mm Kowa or equivalent hanging off them though.
