No tips, just a few pics of service rifles....

Yours truely:

Neat graphics on a rifle at a State Championship match this summer:

Okay, not a black rifle, but my 03A3 at a Springfield match:

NRA Service Rifle:

Rock River NM A2.  Wilson/WOA 1/7 barrel.  RRA sights with First Strike rear aperture and Bob Jones lenses.  Les Tam sling, but went back to a simple M1 sling.  Geissele trigger, 3 lbs 14 oz first stage, 14 oz second stage.

NRA Match Rifle:

Winchester Model 70 pre 64 action blueprinted and barreled by Jack Davis.  Master Class HP straight taper stock in rosewood laminate.  3 way adjustable buttplate and adjustable comb, also from Master Class Stocks.  Sinclair handstop.  Krieger 28" 1/8 barrel in 260 Remington.  Mo Defina's bolt-on clip slot.  Jack Davis front sight with Gehmann 4.0- 6.0 mm aperture, 1.3X magnifier, and shades.  PNW rear sight with Gehmann 510 aperture.  Jewell 2 stage trigger, first stage at 1.5 lbs, 2nd stage at roughly 8 oz.

NRA Long Range/Palma Rifle:

This is a new (to me) one.  Remington M700 action blueprinted and sleeved by Bill Wylde.  Krieger 30" Palma contour barrel, 1/12 twist.  Timney trigger.  RPA front ladder sight.  Still needs a rear sight and aperture and front aperture.

NRA Smallbore Prone Rifle:

Anschutz 1411 (54 action).  Trigger set with first stage at 2 ounces and second at 1 ounce, yet supremely controllable.  Anschutz triggers are unbelievable and worth every penny, IMO.  Old Anschutz sights replaced with REG E5D rear with Gehmann 510 aperture and RPA 18 mm front tunnel with Anschutz aperture disks and 1.3X magnifier.

ETA: need a pic of my M1.

These are not my pictures but here goes.

Mine is outfitted with sights like this one:

But is all black like this one:

I do have a scope for it that I use for load development and perhaps for long range shooting.  It seems whenever I go to a match I always choose to shoot the iron sights.  The scope always seems to stay in its case.

Paolo, do you guys not use the slings to support the rifle?

Does the rubber duck increase accuracy?

Hey JER,
no, we shoot prone, with a support, a sand bag or a bipod, 20 rounds in 25 minutes.

The rubber duck works very fine actually...it helps to keep smiling and never take competition too seriously

Paolo,

What type of ammunition do they allow you to fire on the 300M target? Can you use hand loads or do they require military ball? Do you shoot all your ammunition out of the magazine?

That is one tough target to shoot at. B

Could one use a sling and shooting coat if one wanted?

Hey!, I have to get one of those.  Is that a tactical duck?

BPM,
yes, reloading is allowed (mine is Lapua + SMK BT 69 gr. + VV N135 23.5gr). Round must be magazine fed, minimum 3 rounds, hand feeing is not allowed in order to keep the standard cartridge AOL.

Jer,
About the sling the regulations are not clear (as always happen in Italy) but nobody shoots with that. A shooting coat is forbidden.

Basically the rifle must be as "out of the box" condition and only the accessories listed on manufactured catalogue can be installed. So it happens that my standard Colt 6700 competes against super pimped AR15 made by Oberland (floating, Whater barell..) or M1A1 National Match. This is the reason why nobody but me shoots Colt.  Colt doesn't have a catalogue of option like Bushmaster so there is very few to do to improve its accuracy.
Trigger pull shall be more then 1.5 kg and aftermarket 2 stages units are allowed. Front sight blade can be modified but the rear sight must be as per the original.

Hey Mike, I had to show that the duck is a genuine the Colt parts (SN 1568974, NSN 152-125-6895-3659) to make it legal.

This is a pic of mine.
It might interest you all.
This is what we do in the UK because of the semi auto ban

Rifle's built on Bushmaster receivers with a Jewell Trigger, CLE float tube and Accuracy Speaks 1/2 min sights.
Barrel is a Border 5R chambered in .223 Wylde.
All work carried out by myself including barrel manufacture and receiver mods.

Rifle shot me a 100-6x sitting on Saturday and has previously also shot 100-7X at 300

It does OK

In Service rifle competition in NZ, service rifles must be shot "as issued"
Everything must be standard issue.
We tend only to shoot  between 100 to 500 Metres, No slings, rifle must be unsupported.

There are a combination of precision events and speed events.

Service Rifle NZ

There is an "open" class so you can shoot whatever you want too...

This is another short range event only 100 metres.
Start with loaded gun on ground, competitor standing 2 Metres behind rifle.
On Start signal, Fire two shots prone, stand, fire two shots standing, kneeling or sitting, fire one round, compulsory reload, fire one more round kneeling or sitting, Stand fire two more rounds, lie down and fire final two rounds prone. 60 Second time limit. (which is plenty)

The action halfway through.
