I am interested in opening a new range and I would like to know what everyone looks forward to when they go to a range. What would you keep or change? If money was no object how would your range look like? Any tips would be appreciative!

First thing I would do is contact the NSSF and the NRA Range Development divisions. Both groups have departments to help with legal issues, demographics research, local demand analysis, range design and permitting issues, along with a ton of things I can't think of at the moment. Do your own research as well. Get a list of all of the ranges within 100-150 miles of you location. Visit them for yourself . See what you like/don't like. Do  a search on sites like Yelp, Trip Advisor, and others and find out what others like/dislike.

Make a business plan, then have a Business Development professional review it. Meet with the neighbors to your location and get friendly with them. Ask them about their concerns, traffic etc. Find out where local LEO's train and see if you can work a better deal for them to use your range. Offer to volunteer at a range far enough from your proposed location to see what you will have to deal with as far as range ninjas, assholes, idiots, noobs and the like. Can you put up with them 7 days a week?

I could go on for hours coming up with things you must preplan for. Some will ultimately not apply, others will pop up later. This is true for all businesses. You need to really sit down and think the entire process through. I would strongly encourage you to go through with the process because we need as many people as active in the shooting sports as we can get. Don't be afraid to chase a dream, just THINK IT THROUGH as comprehensively as you can before you go off "half cocked"
Let me know if I can help.
