I will be taking my first class soon in October with Haley Strategic. Handgun One will be the first day, then the next two days will be Carbine One.

I will be shooting my everyday concealed carry weapon throughout the three days. Smith and Wesson M&P 45 Compact. 8 Round Magazines Standard

My question is: Should I buy the S&W 14 round magazines to save myself from reloading soo much to enjoy the class more?

I'm on the fence about this. On one hand it would be great have almost double the capacity and not have to be reloading constantly. But on the other hand, I want to train with 8 round mags so I get used to having 8 rounds in the gun because that is how I carry. Understand?

I'm leaning more towards staying with 8 rd mags.

If the class is decent you will be practicing both tactical and emergency reloads so take what you normally carry

I would buy about 10 mags for the class, you'll thank me later. Buy a few of the 14s, and more 8s, reload drills round count won't matter.

Just take the normal mags you'd carry/use in real life. Part of the class is gonna be about reloading, so you might as well get the most out of it.

If in doubt, email the instructor.

Would you buy extra long mags if shooting a 1911?

Train how you will fight.

Buy more magazines, NOT bigger ones.  The more reloads you do in class, the more practice you will get.  I still have a few Klinton Mags I use as my range mags for a couple of pistols.

i say buy whatever you like it looks like you have a few 8 round mags so a few more then one or two 14 round mags wouldn't hurt. say's the semi logical side of me...wtf no buy 8 rounders says the 1911 side of me

This was my thinking. Just wanted to see if there were others that used 1911s or other 8 rounds mags in a training class like this.

Looks like I'll be ordering a few more 8 rounds mags.

I agree to train how you fight...just make sure you bring a lula bc you'll be reloading quite a bit.  As a side note, I'll be at the same class at the end of October.  Are you local in Orlando?  If so, what lodging do you recommend?  Thanks.

Not quite sure on lodging. The area is pretty damn empty. I live about 20 minutes away in Altamonte Springs. Its just a quick blast up I-4 to get to the range. When looking up hotels, look at the range and head west on I-4 and you'll find plenty of hotels. I know hotels off of 436 and I-4 are pretty cheap.

Stick with eight rounders - it's about learning not convenience.

Run what you have.  Just be sure you have plenty of magazines loaded and on your person.  Don't want to stand there empty while everyone else is still shooting.

This.

The more reps you get, the better your skills will become.

Train how you fight.  That being said....get a few 14's for spares and then train with them at the class.  Problem solved.
