| Went through the Holland tunnel many times over to Chinatown and bought boatloads of fireworks...name it and I probably bought it, It has been a long time since I was back that way and was wondering what the fireworks situation is like these days being how things are. Can you even buy any of the good stuff or has NYPD shut that stuff down ? |

Should you venture to Knob Creek, there's a few folks there selling lots of stuff to roll your own, but a word of advise: spend some time LEARNING how to properly and safely assemble them....Hadji isn't the only amateur with fingers missing.

My late father was a Professor of Chemistry and knew quite a bit about making things that go boom. He used to shoot things off on Skaneateles Lake when we were there on the 4th. The most memorable though was when he brought a large chunk of Sodium metal in oil. He cut it up into small chunks, wrapped them in oily newspaper and tossed them into the lake. They went off like depth charges with a huge shower of yellow sparks. Kids from the neighboring cottage came over wondering what special fireworks he had  |

Yup..got it all out of my system too a long time ago but had shitloads of fun with that stuff. I was just wondering,considering these days,if you could even get anything over there in Chinatown...good times back then

In the weeks before chinese new year you can find some pretty sizeable fire crackers and M-80 type boomers, sometimes even some decent roman candles, but most of it is the long strung together crackers.
You will have a hard time finding any real mortars of decent sky rockets. It aint what it used to be.

| If you go to PA look for smaller one shooters with mostly Chinese writing on it those will be your small salutes. Obviously the Excalibur mortars are loud and new this year were some Diablo shells, those were equal if not a touch better than the Excalibur's. I didn't get one this year but the 16k roll of firecrackers is fun. |
