The Safe Act registration system is still open because you can still register C&R AW's and magazines as they become eligible. My question pertains to potential modern AW's like stripped AR lowers. Does anyone know anyone who has registered an AR after the original registration period expired? The troopers who answer the NYSP hotline say yes, they are still accepting AW registrations because they know that most people have no idea that there is a Safe Act, never mind the registration part. Thanks for any information.

I am sure they are.  And once someone enters information online, you can probably expect a visit from a law enforcement official because you have admitted the the NYSP on a state website to illegal possession of an "assault weapon".  Since registration is legally closed, you are as good as announcing it on the 6 o'clock news.  Good luck finding a lawyer at that point as I am sure one would smack you around for stupidly self-incriminating yourself.

Got a buddy who registered one of those HIPoint 9mil things just last year as he was truly ignorant of the law.  (I don't see that much of him and we haven't shot together in over 40 years.)    He felt he really had no choice since we live in East Diblasiostan and unlike me he could not convert that pos to meet the UnSAFE requirements since the mag goes in the pistol grip.   the brownshirts have yet to knock on his door.   Not sure if he could still do so today online, but he did last year and got some sort of paperwork showing he did kowtow to Cumhole.

Not necessarily. First off I'll be using an out of state address, so NYSP has no authority what so ever as it pertains this particular rifle. Second is I'm registering a stripped lower. I could walk into my local FFL and buy one tomorrow so there is no 'so you had this AW for the last three years' issue.

I've heard you can still register, is the website still live? Technically I don't know if a late registration would be legal but I personally wouldn't worry about it

Registration is totally your call.  I'm not telling you your bad if you do but before you do, think about it.  All your doing is bloating their numbers.

I'm not judging, just a thought.

Btw, can you absolutely guarantee it will never be repealed?

Why would the NYC Democrat controlled Assembly agree to a repeal?
There hasn't been a Republcian governor since Pataki, and he was anti gun. Cuomo won last time by winning almost no upstate counties. The Democrats can probably control the Governors mansion from NYC and some surrounding liberal counties even if Albany, Tompkins etc went red. ( no way anyway).

I think you and I have a better chance of making the next us olympics basketball team.

The biggest problem I have is I put all my eggs in the same basket everyone else did when they decided to not register anything. We all thought the Safe Act was going to loose in court, and if it didn't at the lower levels SCOTUS was gonna rule our way. Nice plan, didn't happen. I still want to shoot events in NYS, and having one registered lower is starting to look like a good idea. You can't predict where and when you'll be involved in an accident, need a tow, or have the man involved in your life. Having a registered lower is insurance against bad things happening to good people.

Do yourself a favor and preserve your sanity.  Pretend it's still 2012 and act as such.  If and when something like you mentioned happens, continue to act as if it's 2012, admit nothing and get a good lawyer.

Poor example.  Your comparing a 100 yr old law to SAFE, which is fresh in comparison.  Compliance was miserable and embarrassing for SAFE.  The same could not be said about the Sullivan act.  All I am saying is think about it, why give them numbers?  I was hinting towards building a compliant rifle for those who read between the lines.

Truth is we undermine ourselves in this state.  We talk a big game and then we bend over and take it up the ass, we pick up and run or expect someone else to fight the fight for us.

I'm guessing you either have no experience with how law enforcement works, or you're one of those 'do not comply' guys who sit around in their basements rubbing 'my precious' with a diaper. You gonna pony up the $20k for my legal defense fund?

Whatever dude.  But remember this, if you register one, you've lost your ability to claim ignorance of the law (which, for once, actually is a plausible excuse the way the safe act was written, with the registration grace period) about the rest of your unregistered, illegal shit.

I say "In for a penny, in for a pound"

I'm curious. Do the registration paperwork that you print ot or get in the mail have the date of registration? I can see this play out in court on other reasons.

DA: Are you an ignorant person, Mr. YourName? Do you break the law or ignore them?
You: No
DA: Then why did you register your firearms under the NY SAFE Act 3 years after the date passed?

Me: "I just heard about it and complied as soon as I found out."  That would (will?) be my answer.  And it seems that the law is written as to accommodate such.

I still have the basic problem with registering an "assault weapon" under the UnSafe Act creating probable cause for the issuance of a search warrant.  What other "stuff" are they likely to find if you give them unrestricted access to your stuff?  Admit nothing that can tend to incriminate you.

IMO, our only chance is a Trump Presidency and him stacking the court with Pro 2nd Amendment judges... it's possible.  Otherwise, just have no feature, semi-automatic builds until NY state passes safe act 2 which bans all semi auto firearms.
