If I have a fixed mag AR (permanently installed) that I want to put a new upper on.....
Do I have to cut off the bayo lug or replace the FH with a solid device? |

Do we have any more info on what NYS considers "permanent", or are we winging it like usual? Too hard to keep up with this shit. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Where in the law does it say that the fixed mag has to be permanently fixed? If it does say it must be permanent (it doesn't)...then what does permanent mean? Takes tools? What tools? What level of gunsmithing knowledge = not permanent? |

I believe you can claim ignorance on your first SAFE Act violation, so Im doing my best to remain ignorant, to make it believable. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I'm viewing things from the "not easily modifiable" position. So, in my mind, if I can't just unscrew it at the range, then it's "not easily modifiable". Mostly in regards to the muzzle threads. "Permanent" adhesive that requires a torch to remove is not easy to modify on the fly. I suppose the same line of thinking could apply to having to drill out a screw, rivet, or other similar piece of metal to remove something. |

No mention of permanent in the law except for modifying magazine capacity.
If the changes had to be permanent then I hope you all ground off your picatinny rail so it can no longer accept a forward grip, glued your stock on your 10/22 and welded on your castle nut. etc etc etc etc And I still don't understand why the muzzle device ever comes up. The reason for the pin/weld was an ATF decision in keeping the barrel length over 16". It has zero relevance. Don't listen to anyone's bullshit. If its not written in the law and there is no court case on it than their opinion is shit. Even after the Skretny decision people are still talking about how their shotguns are illegal cause they can hold more than 7 mini shells. FFS ![]() ![]() ![]()
