| Does anyone have access to a cornfield that will be cut by September 1? Goose season opens up and none of the fields I can hunt will be cut by then. I would love to get out and hunt with some NY HTF guys - I am in Syracuse but have gun will travel....and decoys, blind, waders...... |

I don't own any Farmland up here, however there ARE lots of Farms & Fields with owners willing to allow hunting.(I live in South Jefferson County) There's also Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties to consider....there is a management? area nearby that historically is covered with Geese; it's planted with Corn now, unless I completely forget, I will check with the person that planted it and a friend in the DEC to make sure it's huntable. This is what I use to dispatch neusance animals:

Yeah but Raccoon tastes like ass. It used to be fun to run through the woods in the dark when each hide would bring 30 bucks or more. I got 5 bucks each last year though, barely put a dent in the fuel used to go out hunting. Unfortunately my coon dog refuses to retrieve ducks for me, so I have to keep taking him out to do what he loves. |

im getting jacked for early goose. cant wait. near me (between buffalo and rochester) the feed corn is still standing.. with all the rain we had the corn shot up quick and since its been relatively dry the past few weeks, im praying they cut early. talking to a few farmer buddies of mine they are expecting to cut a few weeks early as opposed to last year. moisture content will hopefully be out by mid september. although. i did come across a thousand acres of sweet corn already chopped.. couldnt believe it. flocks locking up at sunrise and sunset, and i havnt seen the migration even begin yet. i was going to research who owned/operated the field and see if i can get permission... its in a county that i dont frequent and dont know many people ... ill let you know if i come up with anything. seems like every year it gets harder and harder to score good hunting grounds .. its not like it used to be. also - forgot to mention. there is public hunting grounds near me called carlton hill.. and a big chunk of it is leased out to local farmers that have feed corn standing. i was thinking of hitting that and a few bean fields i have seen if my few spots turn up nothing. i try really hard to stay away from wetlands that geese lockdown during the darker hours.. ill pattern their holding waters and then see them fly to the fields during the day and try and hunt them. it always seems they down field into the places i have permission. |
