Gents to the West, I'm going to be in the Newburgh/Poughkeepsie area for 3 days doing some work.  Any restaurants worth checking out?

If you had your pick of towns to stay in, where would you?  (Doesn't have to be in one of those two towns, just something close I guess).  I also have two stops to make in Saugerties and Woodstock area, so one night could be there.

Not really looking forward to this trip so any ideas on softening the blow would be great.

Thanks.

Where will you be working?  Pough and Nburgh are about 1/2 hour away from each other.  I assume you'll be working somewhere in between?

I grew up in the area. There's a great little restaurant called the red brick Tavern on Main Street in Rosendale New York. The weekend prime rib is not to be missed it takes huge piece of beef with all the fixings very affordable.  You will need a reservation. You will not be disappointed. The owner is a CIA chef so everything is excellent but if you like prime rib get it there.

Send me a PM with your phone number and I can give you all kinds of information if you'd like. There are a few good gun ranges between new paltz and saugerties  if you so desire.

I'm a gypsie, I mean real estate appraiser, and will be visiting 18+ sites over the course of 3 days from Brewster to Saugerties, Newburgh, Pough, Hopwell...the list goes on.  Since I haven't built my agenda, and I like to eat, I figured I'd build my trip around where I'd eat dinner or rest my head.  The rest of the trip will just fall into place from there.

If there were a brewery/brew pub worth looking at, or some sort of BBQ joint.  Chain hotels are fine, I more like to choose a good town then pick the hotel.

Kingston New York has a brewery called Keegan ales. The hurricane kitty IPA is awesome as is the mothers milk. Make sure you give that taste.

There is the Newburgh Brewery 88 South Colden Street in the City of Newburgh and Billy Joe's Rib Works 26 Front Street also in the City of Newburgh. There are several chain Hotels just outside the city in the Town of Newburgh. Orange County Choppers world headquarters is also right there in the area of these hotels on NYS Rt. 17K. Gus's Taveran on US Rt. 9W just South of the city does a nice prime rim special on Friday night..

Schlesinger's Steakhouse is pretty kick-ass.  They have a cigar bar, excellent selection of single malt scotch, and a tiki bar outside.

Billy Joe's on the Newburgh waterfront has decent BBQ.  Hudson's Ribs and Fish in Poughkeepsie is good for seafood.

Stay in Wappingers Falls, it's centrally located to all your stops and they have a decent Courtyard.  As for food, definitely check out one or more of the Culinary Institute of America's restaurants.  They are a good deal and the food is great.  Also Aroma Osteria is nice as well.

Thanks a pant load guys.  No lie, right before I started the OP I was on searching for places to stay in Newburgh.  A simple shift of my plans and I will be just passing through now.

The hive delivers once again!

Newburgh is terrible. Town of Poughkeepsie is fine, city of Poughkeepsie has its rough areas.

New Paltz is loaded with good eats.....As mentioned the Gilded Otter is good (nice on premise microbrew) and P&G's is a great little bar with good food....but the hidden gem is next door to P&G's, called Mexicali Blue.....AMAZING enchiladas.

Hyde Park Brewery has good beer too.

This, the Culinary Institute is well worth visiting.  Many top chefs have studied there over the years.

When you go to Woodstock, on the main strip, past the drum circle, there is a little burrito place called Taco Juan's.  cash only.  Thank me later.

Yeah, don't stay in Newburgh...don't stay in downtown poughkeepsie (I don't think there's anywhere to stay there anyway). There's plenty of hotels down where Rt.9 meets up with I-84. There's a couple of decent hotels on Rt.9 in Poughkeepsie, courtyard I think, and one or two others that are decent.

Check out the Hyde Park Brewery, in Hyde Park. I can vouch for their cheeseburgers...very delicious, maybe best in the area.

Definitely try to get a reservation at one of the restaurants at the CIA (the Culinary Institute of America), it's in between Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park (home of FDR), again...right on route 9. they have a couple different styles of restaurants, 3 or 4 I think.

For a decent pizza lunch..."Tony's pizza pit" on main street/raymond avenue in Poughkeepsie has some really good gourmet style slices.

For tacos, Mole Mole in poughkeepsie/kingston are good

Steel house in Kingston, on the waterfront, is good...that's another brew pub

Have fun in the hudson valley...it's actually a pretty cool place, if you get to drive around it...which it sounds like you are.

Drive safe...there's a fair number of "city people" up this way nowadays.... bastards.

Its not a Taco Bell. Anyway, Google Public Library locations for clean toilets. You could fix that!

Oooh, public libraries.  I like that one.  I'm usually in and out of Town halls getting assessor's records and find time to search out their men's room.  I may just have to make a pit stop for story time when I'm on the road next.

This is usually me when I streak into a town hall like a one man SWAT team.
