So I wanted to share my house renovation with all of you who like seeing this sort of thing. My wife and I bought ourselves this 1910 (ETA earlier I wrote 1920) home in South Buffalo for a song, and I knew I could make it our own. We have the luxury of renting one of my dads apartments so we don't have to move in right away.

This has been very fulfilling and very VERY trying on my patience and fortitude that is for sure. Im doing it all myself and learning along the way. Having fun too, but its killing me because any minute im not at work, playing basketball, or sleeping; im working here. Haven't shot a round in about 2 months!!

Oh and Im sorry ahead of time because this has nothing to do with guns.......

Ok so these two pics above show the two rooms that I combined into one big ass room. Put that header in and supported as proper (to my knowledge ) and really had to rip out more knob and tube crap then I care to see in my life! You can see that area in front of the header in the second picture which shows where there was two closets, one facing each way where knocked them out, breathing in a couple of bushels worth of horse hair plaster and lathe on the way down!

compare this one with pic one, and you can see that this was just an oblong shaped bedroom with a little 5 foot space for a single bed to go perpendicular to the window, which I decided to turn into a nice walk in closet for my wife. going to add some nice sliding doors to it to complete the look after the carpet gets put in tomorrow...

This is the drywall work which me and my brother in law did (second coat, it got better as the 3rd went on ) did the walls and the ceiling.

This is a really nice wide staircase we have, which LITERALLY had 3 layers of carpet on it. They seriously just went over each layer of carpet with a new one....now sure how that made sense to anyone in the 80's but then again it was a special time...or so Im told!

This is the downstairs dining room area, with a 2nd bathroom behind that wall and sliding door. That exposed area with the asbestos duct work is going to be the pass through into my kitchen..... fun times.

look at that! no more terribly metal framed bathroom with cheap stand up shower. You can still see the toilet which is going to be relocated over to the other side where the shower was. That will be fun (did I mention I despise plumbing??)

Drywall going up around and inside the bathroom. Half bath so I didn't bother with mold resistant. Just an added expense..

That's my pass through bitches!  That was fun. did the duct work yesterday too, but I don't have a pic yet!

many more to come!

That's what I thought. There was not a single other offer on this house...and it was up for 6 months. I looked at it 2 months before we took it, and I was lik e"I could do something with this" but Ill keep looking. Then the more I thought abou tit, I was like "You know what, Im game. Lets make this one ours."

So that's my life for the last month and a half. Hope to be done with this stage in 2 weeks!

Bro, it's an adventure.  I'm doing my house now while I'm living in it!  All I can tell you is do it right, do it once.  It will be worth it once you are done.

Good luck, God bless!

What's the coolest thing you've found while ripping walls apart? I found an 1878 indian head penny in one of my walls that was in very good shape. I've been hoping to uncover someone's depression era stash of coins and cash, but so far, no luck.

Nice. Now all you have to do is get it moved to a free state when you're done with the renovation.

It's keeping me from doing home renovations, that's for sure. I'm getting a partial knee replacement soon, just waiting for a surgery date to be set.

I've got some angle iron and a pop rivet gun if that will help. No waiting either.

Check out Conlon's, its a little more pricey but the food is fantastic and their beer selection is pretty good. It's a great place for a date.

I will have to check that place out. Driven by it on the way to Doc's a few times, and even met the owner and his wife (who just bought the house right next door to it as well) but I've had no time. But my wife has been kicking my ass about a date night and that is nice and close. Thanks for the tip!

don't you just love breathing in that black dust in the walls as you tear them out?
