Where I work is in one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. Good schools, good police and fire service, close to Nashville but still a small town atmosphere. Check out townofsmyrna.org for the city info, rutherfordcountytn.org for the county. My friends wife is a Realtor, http://www.bobparks.com/getagent/Pages.php?Page=0000641619&
Tell her you saw it on AR15.com There are several indoor and outdoor ranges close by and TN is "The patron state of shootin stuff" Rural land is also affordable if you want to be further out like I am. (Mods please note I stand to make nothing off this post, just telling of the promised land.) |

Seriously, TN is a class 3 and black rifle friendly state. No state income tax, low property taxes, there is an avg 0.10% sales tax on goods and groceries but that beats an income tax.
We are a "Shall Issue" state for carry permits which are user discretion for concealed or open carry. We are also a "Shall sign" state for CLEO signoff on class 3. Cheaper cost of living. Come on down yall! |

Its picking up, not as bad where I'm at. Nissan USA is expanding its plant, if you are in manufacturing. Other areas holding steady. Most of that stuff can be found on the local .gov websites. I won't be moving any time soon but TN is beautiful. You have an awesome state. |

It is...it;s called the Volunteer state...as I understand...for the Tennessee freedom fighters who came down to help the folks in a Mexican province called Texas:) |

I've traveled through TN many times and really like it.
We used to vacation/fish Dale Hollow. Are there any Military Bases in the area? I've too many years in the Federal System to give it up now. Word has it there are more PhD's per capita in the Oak Ridge area than anywhere else in the Country. |

Great. Thanks for the info. I appreciate all the information people can give so i can find a new place to live.
My wife finishes university dec 2013. She has to finish as it is so close. In the mean time i will be traveling 60 miles to rent a room and change my residency to Pa. This was i do not have to register anything and i will not have to feel like a criminal. Bonus is i will apply for an SBR stamp and a suppressor stamp! I hope to have all that done in the year waiting for the mrs. THEN i will move permanently. Pa is just too close to the virus from NY. I am thinking tn, tx, ky, and still looking. |

Public relations and political operations executive with about 20 years of experience working or governors, senators, and Fortune 100 companies, as well as not-for-profit administration. If you know of something, give me a shout. You might seriously look around here. Rep. Scott DesJarlais(R) Tn is in a public relations cluster right now and whoever he has isn't doing very much for him. He's my rep, I like him but Google him before you bite. There is an equally good conservative named Jim Tracy who just announced he is running against him next go around. The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency needs a director badly after a huge scandal. If you want a real challenge its looking like the Dept of Children's Services director is on the way out after years of mismanagement. I'm sure there are plenty of others too. |
|
Emt322636 Rutherford County Sheriffs Dept was promoting some corrections officers to the road last I heard, will be hiring. I'm sure others are too. Not sure about the Dept of Corrections but you can go to ten.gov to look for jobs.
EDIT: Hey thats tn.gov I hate auto correct!! |

The Huntsville area of Alabama looks very inviting, but the sales/property/income tax rates were hedging it out. That said there is a LOT of manufacturing and big name companies in the Huntsville area, I suspect it mostly revolves around the Marshal Space Center, but I digress as this is a thread about Tennessee. (Arnold is near enough to Northern Alabama) |

A lot of folks live in the Fayettville TN area and work in the Huntsville area. Not a far commute at all. Interesting! Seems I had mentioned working in Alabama and residing in Florida to avoid State income taxes, but someone said they would tax you anyways....any validity? On the map and the picture make Fayettville look very appealing. Can you tell me about hunting & fishing? Seems to hunt in AL or GA you have to seriously know someone and/or have a lease on property. Way up here, I know lots of Farmers and there's a bazillion acres of public access woods & waters....I'm not looking for a "free ride" but have a hard time swallowing 5~15 hundred a year to be able to shoot some birds or maybe a deer. |
|
My brother in law did it for years. As far as I know he had no tax liability for it but I would check with a tax person in that area to make sure. My brother in law is dead now so we can't ask him. As for hunting go to the twra website and look at the public hunting areas and wildlife management areas. Tn has a lof of public hunting lands.

TN is great. I have visited Oak Ridge for work numerous times. Its beautiful. My ageing parents, and my kids have me sandwiched right now. But This Law in NY is the final straw - If the federal government weren't about to slash anything non-social, I would head right to ORNL and apply for a job.
I'm waiting a year to see what happens, but I am giving advance warning to the family. We may be Tennessee bound (or Texas, Southern VA, NC, or Florida) Depnds where work is.) Tired of being a high earning conservatives in NY, everybody else can dictate what I do but me - I just want to buy guns. |

Cuomo will likely win re-election by a landslide in 2014 and the Republicans will almost assuredly lose control of the NY Senate in 2015. If you think the '13 SAFE Act is bad you ain't seen nuthin' yet when the Democrats take control of the Legislature and Cuomo is back in the Governor's Mansion. Waiting to see what happens was my mistake. Don't you make the same mistake. |

They will clamp down much that DC will like right wing district. Why I have given up and this shite hole and fiercely fight in another state to make sure liberals are contained. This state will go broke and want to a bail out and they need to rot and wither off the vine. |

What can you say about a hispanic person going into TN?
I have heard many things which I think are wrong but I would like to hear it from the folks of TN, Of course you have to take note that I hate democrats (lol) and I fully support the 2A (LEO here). Thank you. |
| Tennessee has a substantial hispanic population. They are not as numerous as some areas of New York City but I don't think you will feel out of place here.I'm in Middle Tennessee, we have a lot of people of hispanic descent. While there are the occasional asshole sprinkled in but I think Tenneseans as a group are no more prejudiced than any other part of the country. |

Tenn is on the short list. We live downstate NY but were going to relocate back to Western NY were I grew up. However, wife has agreed, that is no longer an option thanks to Cuomo. We are heading to the Carolina's to visit family in the end of March and are going to take a side trip to Tenn. to check it out. Can you offer any suggestions on what to do, see to get a feel for the state? Not neccessarily looking for tourist things but I do have to do some of those as I'll have my 10 year old grandson with me.
thanks Brett |

Thank you for the invite and I loved the time I spent in TN, but for now Im gonna stay here and deal with this issue face on instead of leaving my fellow Gun owners one more man down when this 'disagreement' arrives in 11 months. This is the crack of daylight in castle wall that we have been warned about, if they bust this place wide open the momentum is only going to keep spreading and empowering the same liberal assholes in every big city until teh battle lines get drawn by antis from every state across the Country. This is a hang together or definitely hang seperately kind of issue. there isnt a state in this Nation that is conservative enough to stand up to this on their own if state after state starts to fold. guys can we at least try to duke this one out before everyone makes a mad dash for the door... I agree NY is fucked for other reasons that have already bene mentioned and that are yet to arrive, but how bout we try to deal with this one for now so it doesn't come to bite us in the ass again and again wherever any of us eventually end up. |

Conservatives have been trying to "fix" NY for decades, the un-SAFE Act was the final straw. Let's not forget high taxes, heavy regulations, intrusive laws, fees/permits/licenses for everything, the State has one hand in your pocket and the other up your ass. Once you've lived in a free State it suddenly becomes so very obvious the intrusiveness that's been foisted into every portion of your life. Wouldn't it feel weird to walk into a gunshop, pick up a pistol, fill out a 4473, and walk out with it in a matter of minutes instead of the days abnd hassels of having to ask permission to enjoy a Right. I've fought and will continue to fight, but my tour of duty is almost done.

I've fought and will continue to fight, but my tour of duty is almost done. ![]() Ok point taken, I've only been out on my own for a few years now, something I didn't fully consider compared to some of the life long NY residents here. But to answer the second part, it didn't feel weird it felt great, by my experience at the time was that my county in Ga tried to eff me absolutely as hard and really actually even harder in regards to my ccw than they did up here in NY. I agree it is a massive pain in the neck, but NY has never deliberately locked our completed permits in a draw for six months after they come back approved just because they felt like it. getting them to quit that BS down there required first a couple massive favors from an arfcom Attorney who I owe bigtime, the work of Georgia Carry and finally an actual piece of legislation from the governor that actually had to tell those idiots that they better start following the law as it was written already or face prosecution. literally a new law to tell them he wasn't screwing around about the seriousness of the law that was already on the books that they were actively ignoring. that was about the time that I realized no matter where in the Country you go, idiots are still everywhere, and they swarm in the cities. Also cynthia mckinney was my congresswoman.. |

At this point the only place this is going to be "duked out" is in the courts, it won't really matter how many NY gun owners actually stay here as long as people continue to support the groups who are bringing the fight to the court. I'll keep contributing to the fight here but sorry I'm not staying- I've tasted freedom elsewhere in the past and it has left an insatiable thirst for it. This is the last straw for me and I'm going where my kids can actually grow up knowing freedom and not just dreaming about it here. |

I remember seeing a nice 1914 Mauser for $150 at the Daytona Flea Market when I was a kid and it shocked me, it absolutely blew my mind after growing up in NY. |
