If any of you are considering relocating, please be advised that South Carolina would welcome fellow gun rights voters in this conservative state. And yes, we have CWP permits. Our local (Greenville, mountain foothills) range has 50 - 300 yd rifle range, separate 50 ft to 50 yd pistol range, Skeet, Trap, 5 Stand and each Sunday there is a pistol or rifle match (IDPA, PPSL, Cowboy, Hi Power Rifle, Buffalo gun).

Had originally considered New Hampshire because the wife has a couple years to retire. (I'm done this year)

She doesn't want to be more than a few hours from her mom / family.

After this shit, she's seriously considering bailing on her pension, and sending me listings for Texas.

When you guys are ready to put down this communist filth once, and for all....I'll come back and help ya. (And bring back some tequila for the neck tie party   )

Know of any biopharmaceutical company's hiring? Been looking around to see what's out there already.

Don't know your resume but Fluor E&C and Jacobs E&C both are here and do Pharma. Don't know if they are hiring.

About 85F but will have higher days into low 90's in Jul, Aug. Mild winters - seldom drops below 20.

I have already asked about moving to SC. My company has a location in Greenville.

I'll be in Greenville at the end of the month for a meeting. Any suggestions on what to see, or good indoor gun ranges to visit?

Thanks for the invite!  Was actually just talking to a fellow arfcommer today about this and the wife is totally on board.  I'm retired, so work is not a problem.   Looking in the Horry County area to be near her family.  Plus Mrs. widerstehe and my little one love the beach.

Who knows, this time next year I could be posting in your hometown forum.

ETA:  You guys are working on legislation or a resolution to tell the fed .gov to fuck off like Wyoming is doing, right?

Talking to the wife's aunt earlier, she indicated the summers are not much different than here in NY.  She is near the Atlantic, though, so she emphasized the humidity.  It gets humid here, too, so...

I'm not trying to hijack this thread.

South Carolina is a great state.  I've been seeing a lot of posts in the Carolinas HTF regarding possible re-locations.  I'm from North Carolina (stationed in Virginia right now).  NC may have slightly higher taxes than SC and our firearms laws are a little more restrictive.  You have to have a pistol permit to purchase pistols (don't worry, the process is actually simple) or a concealed carry permit (easy as well).  Our NFA laws are a little retarded but they are allowed.  Basically, machine guns can't be purchased via a trust, the sheriff still has to sign off on them.  Either way, both NC and SC's gun laws are a thousand times better than what you guys are dealing with in NY.

Why am I asking you guys to consider NC over SC?  SC is a solid red state.  States like NC and VA are toss-ups.  We need conservative voters in these states to off-set the FSA vote.

If any of you guys are seriously thinking about relocating, please consider the toss-up states that need your vote.  Consider this, if a significant number of you guys were to move one state over to PA, you might be able to change that state back to red while also possibly reducing NY's electoral votes and Congressional representation.

I grew up in Buffalo.  When my whole family moved south, I somehow turned left and ended up in Poughkeepsie.  It's been good to us but after 12 years wife is ready to go.  We had thought about going back to Buffalo as her family is still there and the housing is much cheaper.  However, she has also always wanted to go south.  I have family in both Aiken, S.C. and Charlotte, N.C.  Tennessee is also in the running along with Virginia, Texas, Idaho and on the outside, Montana.  Just starting the research, got a year to get it figured out.

Indoor ranges: Allen Arms on Poinsett Highway, and a new one on Rutherford road (can't remember the name). Both sell firearms also - out of stock on AR's right now.

I second the OP's recommendation.  I lived in Myrtle Beach for 2 years and would love to go back (and get to see my dog, too!).

These are the sort of pics I would send up to the friends/fam here in NY, to make them jealous; taken in February last year:

Still a bit nippy to go swimming, but still nice enough to just relax and take a stroll down the beach........in FEBRUARY!

For me, NC sounds pretty good, especially Raleigh as it is highly rated for those of us in IT.

Yes Raleigh/Research Triangle Park (rtp) has a lot of IT companies. I was down there in November for a data center move and i was looking around at housing. Some areas were pretty run down off the beaten path. I got off the beaten path via my iphone map and it looked as bad as city of Poughkeepsie but other than that looked like there was nice areas and bad areas and all was cheaper than what I'm paying now.

Look at Georgia, the Atlanta area is constant roadwork, just don't live there.
