just ordered my first Windham SRC (sight ready model). My state requires a fixed stock but want to remove it and add a collapsible one. Here are my question:
1) Do I need to replace the buffer tube when I remove the stock or can an adjustable stock be added to existing tube? 2) Do I need a Milspec or commercial buffer tube if i need to replace it? 3) Anyone have any experience with a TRUGLO red dot sight? They seem reasonably priced.. THANKS

Quoted: I'm not following...if NY requires you to have a fixed stock by law, then why are you trying to replace it with a collapsible one? Seem to me you would just leave the stock the way it is.My state requires a fixed stock but want to remove it and add a collapsible one. |
| There should be no discussion about changing your stock. NY requires a fixed stock...period. It's really simple; keep it fixed. The NRA sits with politicians and fights for LAW abiding citizens and their right to own firearms. Please keep it in accordance with your state requirements. I'm not trying to to berate you in any way, but I hope you understand the importance of doing it right; especially now. |

There are a few things to interject here.
First is - your stock cannot be telescoping or collapsible. You CAN have a carbine stock and buffer tube which would be collapsible in other states, but here it has to be drilled and pinned, and made so it can't be readily restored. The ATF test is to beat the butt of the rifle against the pavement to try and force it to collapse, so dual pins and covering said pins with epoxy is the best way. I have two Magpul STR stocks in this condition. Get a local armorer/gunsmith to do it for you. Commercial and mil spec are different external diameters. For parts sake, mil spec offers more choices. Truglo is junk. |

What is the difference between milspec and commercial? Do they serve different purposes? I think you need to reply back to the people who have commented as to what your intentions are. You are posing questions on an open forum as to how to commit a felony.
