with all that is going down what is the outlook for a new AWB in NY?

i could see a whole new assault weapons ban happening changing the wording , new ban would super-cede our current ban
illegal to own any mag holding over 30 rounds pre ban or not ....harder to purchase an ar lower or ar15 in general ?  shoot maybe try and make us turn in our ar`s ? now a days nothing would surprise me

They can't take what u own already.  So get it now.

I can see a full on AR ban in NY.  But it also depends on how much traction this gets nationally.  It could be a flash in the pan after this week.

Prince Andrews daddy tried to get an confiscatory assault weapons ban passed in 1992, the then Super told him that the members of the NYSP would not be collecting guns. I do not see such support from the current appointees in Albany.

Awb2 only requires registration with the state police, not confiscation. I would assume less well liked officers would be assigned to sit in the chair at the registration center.

I'm not far from the PA border, and work about 10 minutes from that border.  It's pretty enticing.  It's just that there's no nice places to live right near the border in PA, that I've seen.

They won't ban ownership of existing rifles, just prohibit you from taking them out of the house, selling them or transferring them to your heirs. Wipes out legal ownership in a generation.

Are you nuts ????

Darn if you have the chance to jump ship and run to a free state do it.

I have two  and half more years here until my last son is done High School and I'm out of this liberal asshat state.  My wife and I have been looking all over Pa in the past six months for place to live.

I just came back from a free state in March.

Like I said, the housing selection isn't very good right over the border.  I'm sure I could go farther into PA and find something I like, but it looks like it would be too far from work and family for my liking.  I hate commuting.  I drove 40 minutes each way at my last job down south.  It sucked.

Where would that put you?  Sayre?

I bought a quad from a dealer in Sayre about 5-6 years ago (Northeast ATV).  The area looked nice and suburban-ish.  I could easily make that move.

The closest part of PA from me is Great Bend, and the area looks like poop.

I am not into town or village living. Once the market around here rebounds post flood and I can sell my house for more than what I have in it, I am planning on finding a chunk of land and building a home.  South of Owego would be ideal.

As much as I'd like to live in the "country", I don't think I'd last long.  Too quiet.  I'd love a weekend getaway in the sticks, though.

That's a depressing thought. If a new federal AWB is passed NY will probably drop the issue, if it fails we will probably get super state AWB2. We are almost better off with a new fed awb in NY

They can pass anything they want.

"Outside the home" is currently a split NY/Illinois, will probably go to SCOTUS, which will rule outside the home is covered by 2A.

Outright ban on anything is cost prohibitive.   Grandfathering would be most likely...then we sit tight and wait for industry to find ways to comply just like in the past.

Eventually the AWB will be challenged, based on "commonly in use."   The basis needs to be built, so plan on a long wait; of course a change in SCOTUS will torpedo that.

I think they'll wait for the federal anti stuff, because it will be outside the scope of legislature, that way politicians are not on the hook.

At the state level, plan on registration, renewable permits for both pistols and rifles, and pistol permits being difficult to obtain- no more "shall issue."    And perhaps rediculous costs associated with registering of firearms, making them cost-prohibitive to purchase.

I am prepared to do just that, if NYS passes a new full out right AWB2 that requires registration, confiscation or any other left wing crazy restrictions I am out of here. Frack this state, I will take my tax dollars to a free state that respects the 2A and isn't looking to tell me how much soda I can drink.

This state has gone full retard and I have been thinking about leaving it for sometime now and a new state wide AWB2 will just speed up the process. The only thing that has been holding me back thus far is the fact that my daughter lives and goes to collage in NJ and as a dad, I of course want and need to live as close as possible to her. Now with that said, she will have her degree come mid 2013 and is thinking of leaving the state herself, which means I will have more choices where to spend my tax dollars.

I am currently considering PA, NH and VT and if by chance the country does go full coocoo for coco puffs with a new full out blown AWB2, well then I guess were all fracked...

Probably not that likely it will happen.  SCOTUS has a history leaving precedent alone, as in they prefer not to dabble in overturning previous rulings.  I think Heller and McDonald are no different.

IMHO, more than likely the court will simply refuse to hear future cases challenging gun control laws.

Too many NY'ers have moved to PA and are turning it just like NY.

I watched the same thing happen when i lived in Colorado, Californians are destroying that state.  Dont take this as you have to live in a red state to be free, but the political climate over the past decade has shown me how people leave strict blue states for predominately red states and take their politics with them.

One of the major reasons I dont like PA is that you cannot hunt with an AR, I give NY credit for allowing us to do so.

I believe i did hear somewhere that PA has the largest NRA membership out of any state, so id guess that helps keep the gun laws lax.  But the more people move to urban areas, the more you will continue to see 2A rights be addressed.  At least thats the way Im seeing it...

Here's a possibly more prudent question: If they sign something over this next week or shortly later in January, what's the earliest possible "go live" date for it? With the current one it was September 1994. If they pass it in January, is that the date that everything would become illegal or would it have to be some later date?
