I have never seen so many deer along side the roads without their heads this year. Must be a head snatcher around here somewhere

Must be they're on the move or the Rut....I've missed hitting a deer for the last four mornings. (diffrent locations) stupid things are everywhere but in front of my sights.

Sounds like poacher.  I once saw a deer near the edge of a open field during hunting season that was without it's head, and the body left to rot.  It's a shame that some people would do that.

My commute to work and back is heavily traveled by 18-wheelers.  You can tell when one of them hit a dear, because there is just a red, chunky splatter all over the highway.  No real body parts.  Maybe some skin.  Looks like the damn things exploded, but I guess a semi traveling 75MPH will do that to a deer.

I cross over the thruway on the way to work, one day there was half a deer on the bridge.   you could see straight up through the rib cage.   No real blood around or anything.

The boy hit one in his old Ford truck; literally blew the guts out the ass (the entire ass in fact) bent the fender and some grill damage...let me tell you those old (pre 1980's trucks) were the last of the heavy metal Fords, and will take quite a hit.
It's dark when I leave and dark when I get home....scares the schitt out of you when one jumps right out in front of you, especially when you're not fully alert.

My brother in law used to drive a semi for Wegman's.    One time he hit a herd of them on the Thruway between Buffalo and Rochester.  When he got back to the shop there were parts of deer stuck all over the undercarriage of the cab and the trailers.   Back about 6 0r 7 years ago I took one for the team on the NYS Thruway between Herkimer and Dolgeville.  I had two semis side by side behind me and a deer walked out onto the road in front of me.

Remembering what my brother in law told me about how it scares the crap out of truckers when a deer comes out in front of the car in front of them.   They don't have a clue as to what the driver is going to do.  So knowing that if I slammed on the brakes someone was probably going to die I maintained speed, swerved and almost missed it.  I hit it and it went under the wheels on the passenger side of the car and the carcass then spun off the road.   A self cleaning accident.

The car remained steady so I pulled over when I got to a safe place to do so near the Herkimer exit.  The tuckers blew their horns as them went by and withing a minute a trooper was behind me asking what was wrong.  I told him I hit a deer and he asked are you sure?  I could see no obvious damage to the front of the car at first.  Finally found a broken fog light and some fur stuck between the right front tire and rim.  No other damage.  Cost to fix was $135.

The car was a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix.  Best car I ever owned.  I put 168,000 miles on it in 5 years.  Still getting a little over 30 mpg highway when I sold it.  Since about 145,000 of the miles were compensated miles, that car not only paid for itself and upkeep, but the used Jeep Cherokee I got.   I even paid off the mortgage a few years early.

I now drive a company car .  But this year I have seen a loy of roadkill deer.

Passed a nice buck on the side of the road today I was heading south he was on the median north side of the PIP just before 6W heading south. I pulled off to the sideof the road and walked back about 30 yards to get a better look. He was no less then a thick 8 pointer with one side broken-off.  I said to myself " I'll go back later in the morning " well around 11:00am I went back and he was gone.

Years ago..deceades by now...I was on 17 once and  headed downstate.... watched a big rig hit a deer.
The thing pretty much vaporized on impact.
Funny thing was I was a bit tired and seeing that was like..."whooaaaa" and woke me right up.
I hated those days of driving 17 where I'd forget to bring some cassettes and when the radio would fade out in the hills and I'd be lucky to pull in some Evangelical trying to save my eternal soul on AM radio....

Pretty common in Tompkins. Each one of us seems to average one or two a night minimum this time of year.
Had one the other night where the deer smashed in the side window of the car and tried to jump into the car with the female driver. Freaked her out bad.....

A" few" years ago  (20 or more), on NYS 13 and the "beltway" around Newfield, a deer went through the windshield, kicked the driver to death, then got out of the car.

Buddy of mine saw a big buck laying on the side of the road just south of Ithaca on Rt 13 that was missing the head. Now thats redneck to me. Someone wanted the rack bad enough to take the head off. Ive talked about it but never gone through with it. And I've seen some big bucks laying dead side the road.

By the time they get Bambi, its been lying by the roadside for a day or two.

I was headed to a call last night and there was a herd of about a dozen  I passed, and I swear this one 8 point was pissed off that I interupted his quality time when I lit him up as I went by. He looked like he was about ready to come onto the road after me.....but to keep ARF happy, no dogs were shot either

On a related note , our local village of rich folks just decided they WOULDN'T cull their overflowing deer population and instead want to throw another million after the million they already spent trying to sterilize the deer.......

you see headless deer because they were bucks that got hit during the rut most likely at night. people cut their heads off to keep for a mount or just a rack. nothing more nothing less.

That deer just drank to much and passed out on the side of the road on the way home.  Happed to me a few times in my younger days...
