I live in a western western county where the judge would only issue restricted permits. Well after 10 years i finally got the unrestricted. I guess he decided after enough lical pressure that 5 years of restricted permit with no problems is long enough to get your unrestricted. My question is about carrying in my car and leaving it in the glove box. Is that ok ior do i need to have it on me? I cant take it in to work and pretty much leave it it glove box fir driving home in the middle if the night.

theres no law about leaving it in ur vehicle but personally I would get a vehicle handgun safe and place it in there not as easy to open and take your weapon out of the vehicle, after all you will be responsible for anything that happens if that pistol is taken out of your vehicle and used in a crime

most permit offices will tell you (when I got my first permit it was one of the paragraphs outlining your behavior as a permit holder) that leaving a handgun unattended in a car is a no go. If the car or gun gets stolen kiss your permit goodbye. The only way I would leave it in the car is if you install a bolt in small safe in the car that can be locked. glove box won't cut it. The letter  I speak of will also provide a long list of places they say you should not carry, even though there is no law against it. As I recall it said it was not considered "a good idea" or words to that effect. Just because something is not illegal does not stop a permit office from discouraging it. If you violate a permit office policy you can get your permit revoked.

Not in criminal court...but potentially in civil court. At least that's what I think.

You're going to have a lot of 'splainin' to do (or worse) if your car is stolen or if someone breaks into it and steals the gun. Seriously don't do that under any circumstances.

Some counties will pull your permit if your gun gets stolen, especially from your vehicle.

Totally unfair and wrong.

Is someone held responsible if their car is stolen, and is used in a bank robbery, or a hit and run? No.

Why are we responsble for the actions of a criminal?

The answer is, criminally we aren't liable. But they can still revoke your permit.

You're responsible for not taking better steps to secure the gun to prevent its theft.

As others have said, invest in a vehicle gun safe. The glovebox is not adequate

I had a Mini-Revolver stolen from my car in the front yard.....nobody said squat.
Revocation of a LICENSES (they are NOT "permits") isn't to be taken lightly, and there are ramifications for the Judge that does so. Article 30 proceedings don't look good on your resume.
Do diligence in securing your weapons and property is mandatory, however complete control at all times is an impossibility.
A little enginuity goes a long way: hell, I secured a handgun in a truck once by handcuffing it to the brake pedal.
