COLONIE - An on-duty police officer who was carrying an unloaded .22 caliber Derringer in his carry-on luggage as part of a case that was under investigation was stopped by Transportation Security Administration officers at the Albany International Airport checkpoint Monday.
The handgun was detected as the bag passed through the checkpoint X-ray machine, a TSA spokeswoman said. The passenger, bound for Chicago's Midway airport, was able to continue on his flight after leaving the airport to "secure the firearm," the TSA said. Weapons, including firearms, aren't allowed in carry-on baggage, the TSA said. Some may be permitted in checked baggage, but passengers should check both local laws and with their airline before packing. The incident didn't have any effect on airport operations, the TSA said. |

I know at my work, guys carry guns on planes either in their carry on or on their persons, and we are not federal air marshals, just a county agency.. |
| If he had gone through the steps to carry his duty gun on the plane, the TSA looks silly for the worry about the unloaded evidence gun, might have been better to have this on his person and prevented the problem all together. Now if he was not armed then he should have spoken with TSA about how to transport the gun before even arriving at airport. |
