Yours truly is the proverbial "Hick-from-da-Stix," and he visits NYC for the first time in his 66 years last week. So my cabbie in from LaGuardia seemed to me to be a Muslim and when I flew out, the cabbie I used also seemed to be a Muslim.
So then...how do Muslim cabbies get away with parking their liveries on Riverside Drive en masse to pray and mess up traffic? Traffic Snarled by Praying Muslim Cabbies Mebbe I'm asking this question since I got held up by one of these rituals. If I overpark my Silverado here in downtown Akron, Ohio––man––a Meter Maid is there like a duck on a june bug with a ticket. Some "No park" zones have a SWAT Team tow truck that whisks your wheels off to the impound lot quickern a New York minute at a mega-buck fine and impound fee. Can someone help me understand how these NYC cabbies can get away with this..? Can Christian, Jew, Bhuddist, Bahia or even Atheist cabbies get away with this kind of stuff in NYC? Thanks! |

If you drove a cab and not a Silverado, you could park anywhere. NYC, makes allowances for folks driving their offices on 12 hour shifts because in Manhattan, legal parking is a challenge. Cabs are the ride of the middle class, a group NYC seeks to please. There is very little that one cannot do in Manhattan and not destroy traffic. That includes shooting any number of tv shows, or marching with 20000 office workers, as happened today.

I'm the last guy to defend or promote muslims OR cabbies.
However, to be fair, the same treatment is extended to every other faith that I can think of. The main difference is that on Saturday at temple and Sunday at church the double parkers are regular passenger cars, not highly visible and identifiable yellow cabs. Same thing for the Sikhs and Buddhists in Queens. Do these clowns "stretch' the indulgence by triple or quadruple parking and shitting up traffic? Definitely |
