| What county should I use to apply for a pistol permit in PA?? From the reading I'm doing...a lot of the county's require to apply in person...what county can I do this through the mail??? |

PA now requires a digital pic and signature so it's no longer possible to apply by mail. If you're down county (WC, OC, PC, DC, UC etc.) call the Pike County Sheriff and find out what you need to do to apply in person. Milford PA is just over the Port Jervis NY border. Your other alternative is to get a FL or NH non-res license which has reciprocity with PA. If you don't need to carry in NH the FL CCW is a much better deal. http://www.pikepa.org/sheriff.html http://www.co.centre.pa.us/sheriff/license_application.asp License to Carry Firearms Applications Via Mail to be Discontinued on March 31, 2011As the result of requirements of Act 66, 2005, applicants must have their photo and signature captured electronically into our system. At this time there is no manner to complete these requirements without the personal appearance of the applicant. Therefore we will not be able to process any mailed applications received after March 31, 2011. |

Has anyone with a restricted NY license actually gotten a PA license issued through Pike Co. ?
I had asked a while back and was denied because of my "restricted" license. They told me, in person, that because my NY license has HUNTING and TARGET stamped on it as restrictions, that they would not issue a carry permit to me.I did not ask the Sherrif himself, but a staffer. I asked twice, about two years apart with the same results. I ended up going with Centre Co. instead and had it in a couple of days. Now I wonder if they would renew through the Pike office as I have had the Centre issued one? I may look into it next time I'm up there. I have family in Pike Co. and that's why I wanted the permit in the first place. |

The problem with the UT non-res CCW is it's not valid in FL. FL is $117 and good for 7 years and doesn't require any special training course if you have a NYS issued DEC hunter safety course or other acceptable training. http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/weapons/index.html Florida law requires you to submit proof of competency with a firearm in order to qualify for a concealed weapon license. A copy of a CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION or similar document from any of the following courses or classes is acceptable: any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission or a similar agency in another state; any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course; any firearm safety or training course or class available to the general public offered by a law enforcement agency, junior college, college, or private or public institution or organization or firearms training school, utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association, the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, or the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement; any firearms training or safety course or class conducted by a state-certified instructor or by an instructor certified by the National Rifle Association. The copy of the training certificate/document must be clear and legible. The certificate/document must include your name, the instructor's name, the instructor's signature, and the instructor's certification number. Other acceptable forms of training documentation include the following: documentary evidence of experience with a firearm obtained through participation in organized shooting competition; active-duty military personnel may submit copies of any of the following documents that confirm your experience with a firearm gained during your service: military orders including call to active-duty letter; a statement of military service signed by, or at the direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters which identifies you and provides your date of entry on your current active-duty period; former military personnel can submit a DD Form 214 reflecting honorable discharge from military service. |
