| The microstamping bill has advanced to 2nd Report in the Senate. Eric Schneiderman thinks he has the votes because the Republicans cannot keep their conference together, especially Frank Padavan and Tom Morahan who is retiring. |

Given the failure that is COBIS, the fact that our legislature is even consideing this is proof that they've gone full retard. They have no clue what they're proposing. Anyone know when this would be implemented if it becomes law? I might have to make some purchases......

The replies in red summarize the responses I was given this moring from each Senator's office. It is abundantly clear that there are a few votes hanging in the balance and we need to call them pronto. Calls from those residing within a Senator's district will carry a little more weight, but every call is logged with your position.
You can run through this entire list in about 20 minutes. Simply ask the Senator's position, then ask them to take down your name, town and request to oppose. With those who were undecided or undeclared, I gave a polite two sentence summary of how the supporters in CA have reversed their support (ex., CA Police Chiefs) and that the patents have yet to be released from the patent holders even though the bill was to take effect in January. Go get 'em!

JW, well done. Good work.
I am urging some of our area senators to corral the strays from the R herd. I have heard there will be at least 2 R who will vote YES. That is BS about the turd who says the senator will "not discuss his postion". BS. We pay your damn salary and benefiits, you had better discuss your positions I heard that radio ad locally here in Rochester too.! |

Quoted: Heard an advertisement on WCBS 880 sponsored by the NSSF opposing the bill. It is the first time in my life I can recall hearing a pro-gun advertisement on a New York City area radio station. Me too, I put my hand up and shushed my wife (cuz she was saying something really important ) and couldn't believe my ears. Hearing ads on WBAB for Coliseum Gun Traders was kinda weird too. |

Quoted: F'ing Bloomberg just put his weight behind this bs. Are we screwed yet? He's probably going to buy off every politician in Albany running for state office in November. http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2010/06/10/2010-06-10_bloomberg_outspent_all_other_new_york_politicians_combined_on_campaigns_last_yea.html Bloomberg as an individual contributed more to his political campaign for Mayor in NYS than the combined campaign contributions made to every other candidate 18+ million population of NYS. Mayor Bloomberg spends nearly $110M to get reelected, beating out combined donations for all NY pols BY Celeste Katz AND Adam Lisberg DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS Thursday, June 10th 2010, 4:00 AM Mayor Bloomberg didn't just spend more money on politics last year than anyone else in New York - he spent more than everyone else in New York. Hizzoner spent $109.9 million to get re-elected, while all other New Yorkers combined donated just $90.7 million to candidates and parties. $107.6 million of Bloomberg's cash went directly to his reelection fund. Another $2.2 million went to the Republican and Independence parties, which put him on their ballots. A Bloomberg spokesman declined to comment. |

hey just looking for some feedback on an email I whipped up. Too much or not enough?
Senator, First of all I would like to thank you for your time. As to the issue at hand I would strongly urge you and the rest of the Republican party to OPPOSE the microstamping bill that is currently on the floor of the NY Senate. This would not only kill an industry that generates all too important revenue for our great and financially distraught state, but it would limit the God given rights of free Americans to protect themselves and enjoy a great American pastime. Another point being that this is an unproven easily defeated measure that would, in line with COBIS, simply waste lots of tax payer money. Actually what we (Albany) should be discussing is the abolishment of COBIS but that is for another time. As an aside note this bill, I would suspect, is being pushed all too aggressively by the ONE AND ONLY company that holds the incomplete patent on said technology therefore creating a monopoly on the industry. It would be like passing a bill mandating that everyone buy Mobil gasoline. It's just not fair, moral, or ethical. It's down right greedy and plain wrong. Again, I appreciate your time and urge you to get on any and all senators in your party to kill this terrible bill. Best regards and thanks, My name and address |

Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Am I to understand from that list that Marcellino opposes it? I have talked to Marcellino in the past and I can confirm it. Good I remember the first time I talked to him about some firearm legislation years ago he told me not to worry about it and that he was an owner too. Just for fun, I checked that NY Packing website that is causing so much grief and, sure enough, he has a license (old database listing)! I doubt he is going to vote for a law that will hit him personally. |

Looks like the bill was laid aside. How does this affect it? that means it can come up for a vote on another day... we need to be relentless with our calls to the senators.. be polite and make as many calls as you can... So is there no possibility of it coming up for a vote again today then? |

You need to keep in mind the NY Legislature doesn't operate like other state legislatures do. Almost everything in NY is done behind closed doors by the majority party conference/leaders without benefit of public hearings, fact finding, input from industry sources, the general public or meaningful floor debate. |
