Hi Guys

I just had a quick question about shipping a rifle out of state. Any problem shipping a rifle directly to a FFL out of state who will accept them from an individual ?  If it is ok,whats the protocol to follow ?

Thanks

Completely legal. Ship via your carrier of choice. I generally use UPS just to get a real tracking number, and they're often a little cheaper than USPS.

No ammo in the same box, no markings to indicate it's a firearm. Long guns don't have to go overnight, either (handguns do). Insure it for whatever you feel is appropriate.

I just get a copy of his FFL ?... Do I need to send a copy of my license or anything ? Any suggestions on what to ship it in and where to get it ?

You probably won't get a copy of his FFL; instead ask for the FFL number so you can do the ATF EZ Check. Make sure you're only shipping to the address it validates to.

Some FFLs will ask for a copy of your driver's license, some just want name, address, maybe DOB. Ask the FFL in advance what he wants/needs from you.

A cheap-ass padded plastic rifle case and a cardboard box works, or you can tear apart and re-tape boxes to fit... that's what I did, and it was a royal pain in the butt! Ask your local pusher if he has any extra boxes he was getting rid of.

Bring a file copy of his FFL (have him fax you one if possible) to UPS just in case its asked for. I usually ship rifles in a plastic case and if not a case pack well with bubble wrap along with newspaper/styrofoam nuggets, get a cardboard box according to what your packing. I get cardboard boxes from a local place that deals in shipping containers.

if you go to a ups store they sell a box they label as "rifile",thats how they spell it.it measures 52x8x4.it fits most long guns.it cost $10 or $12 bucks.then you can use whatever packing material you want inside and then tape the box shut.hope this helps.
