Hey Gents,
I was looking to go to Mitchell Field for the first time in the next week and was wondering what type of ammo I can use there. I wanted to shoot my .22 conversion with Fed bulk pack and also my AR with Brown Bear Hollow Point .223. Is this good to go or are they gonna give me a hard time? Thanks |
| I would recommend calling to make sure they weren't closed for some LE agency training. I went yesterday morning, Thursday, and was suprised by the big RANGE CLOSED sign by the front door. It looked like the Park Service was doing training. I stuck around for a while and they let me shoot because some other agency was a no show. |

I first have to make my way down to a local office and pick up a Leisure pass. Thanks for the help guys! |

u can get the pass at the range....its worth the money....i am going tomorrow after i help my sister move... The pass is free, but it will let you save $8 on each visit. They have few more discounts for seniors, active duty and some other groups The pass isnt free you gotta pony up like $20.00 for it, if I remember correctly. |

Unless it's weather related? |

All pistol rounds are also good. For long guns fmj is forbidden. HP, SP, and ballistic tip is all acceptable shotgun is slugs only They may ask you to pop open a box of cartridges to show them when you go to sign in, but its not big deal. They offer numerous discounts LEO/FF/EMS/Mil both AD and retired so make sure to ask, the deal is only good before 5'oclock however and im not sure if its only available to nassau residents or not. Mitchell field imo is an excellent range in just about every aspect. I've been shooting there for years, the staff is friendly and laid back, and generally extremely ebr frienly as well although your fellow shooters may be a different story. Many years ago on the rule board they had a rule that said max load is 5 rounds but the rule has been struck out and I never have a problem and always load my mags as much as I want. The only thing that they will get angry about besides obvious range safety violations is numerous bursts of rapid fire. There has been an occasion or two when me and my buddy have both been shooting similar HK p7s which sounded like a single shooter dumping mags and they got pissed until we showed them that it was 2 shooters. Once you've been there a few sessions or on otherwise light times during the days I have practiced DTs, triples, mozambique drills etc, and its all no problem. I usually show up with the most evil looking stuff possible, uzi model a (preban) ar (preban) fs2000, FAL, 30 rounders, etc. nobody every has a problem. If your gonna hang silohuettes make sure to grab a double clipped hanger on your way in, also I always always make sure to get the attention of the other shooters in the room and motion to them that they have ears in cause many guys bring new shooters or young shooters etc. and a .308 with a brake indoors is enough to kill someone so be aware of that. Also you must police your own brass, liek I said the staff there is really the best I've ever seen either at a gun shop or range or whatever so I always try to be extra courteous to them because they are always courteous to me, they like to close up right on time so start to wind it down early and I genearlly try to help the guys police up whatever loose brass has been left around by fellow less that courtous shooters. |
