Does anyone know where I might be able to find  a good deal on 7 1/2 shot? I'm looking to possibly buy 350 lbs of it. I figure that will be enough to shoot 5K rounds per year of 1 1/8 loads. I've heard of some clubs allowing their members to purchase shot at the club's dealer price when they place their orders. Are there any clubs around the Rochester area that do this?

I'm guess you've tried Bierkirch's. I buy 7.5 and 8 shot there for my FIL when he runs low. I've never bought in that quantity before...

I haven't gave them a call yet. I'm going to do that later today. I figure I'll start shooting 100+ rounds a week from the shotgun so I wouldn't mind buying in a larger quantity if I can lower unit cost by doing so.

100rds a week is 4 sessions of trap/skeet which is a pretty good pace to go at it if you want to moderately improve your score.

When I was younger and had more time (and no kids), I'd probably do about double that a weekend; but I was working on really getting better and ammo was alot cheaper and I didn't have to pay per round like at the club that I shoot at now...

Have you considered the wallyworld option? 100 count boxes of 7.5 multi-purpose loads are running at around $20. Its a pretty decent price and they never seem to run out of them...

I've found it more cost effective to reload buck than trap loads. Either way, ordering shot online sucks, its literally mail ordering lead weight
Definitely hit up beirkichs.

I figured I should be able to save $3 a box or so compared to buy Win. AA for $8/box. Honestly, I'll probably end up shooting more like 250rds a week now that I have nothing to do forever and I don't mind adding another reloading press to the garage. I'm thinking either a P/W 2000 or Dillon SL 900 for xmas. The club I'm joining is $2 per round (which I think is pretty cheap) so I'm sure I'll shoot more than expected.

Drop me an email or IM.  I have Lawrence Magnum lead shot and a MEC9000G I may be interested in parting with.

why i stopped reloading shotshells I found i was about breaking even with wally world . Plus who knows how much longer you will be able to reload lead/shoot it.. just look out west like ca I know your thinking of traget now but you cant even use lead for waterflower hunting in ny for a long time now. I figured it would be just time they will jump on the calf. thinking and ban all lead. just food thought..

I wish i could shoot that much i use to shoot almost 500 a week when i was single and had no famlily times have changed though..

I figure I will be able to save a minimum of $2/box so this will easily offset a majority of the costs associated w/ me shooting skeet/trap. I don't plan on shooting 500 a week but who knows, its a possibility. Being single w/ no family and not a single bill allows me to do a lot of stuff.

Enjoy this. Seriously. Travel, party, and go shooting everyday. Once your married and have kids, this stuff get exponentially more difficult to swing.

I wish you the best of luck on your trap/skeet shooting immersion; I'm envious of your ability to do so.

Don't be too envious it kind of blows. I"d rather be busy with life, but with job markets how they are now there's not much else for me to do.

If you're going to reload shotshells be sure to invest in really good hulls first:
Winchester AA or Remington STS will survive multiple reloadings.
"Cheap" shotshell hulls do not reload very well in short order you'll be able to look inside and see the difference in design and composition, when you press them you'll know the difference.
Get a shotshell reloading manual: you might poo-poo it at first, but there is valuable information in there.
Pretty much once you get a load set up, most shooters stick with it.
For powder I prefer AA Nitro-100. Loads the same as Red-Dot, but isn't anywhere near as dirty. Biekirchs has 8 pound kegs for under $100. in fact they have everything you could possible need for Trap shooting, they also supply most of the Trap Clubs throughout NY and into New England.

Here's a line that I like to use when guys start talking shit: "Trap is for people that are too slow to shoot Skeet"

I'm buying/shooting/saving to reload Win. AA hulls right now. I'm probably going to stop in beikirch's this week and pickup some wads and a few other things. They do supply the club I'm joining and Hanz (did I spell that wrong?) is going to be at the club pig roast next wednesday. I just have to come up with the $1050 for the Browning Citori Plus I'm buying from my neighbor then I'll go and start stockpiling the shot, and rest of components I need.

Hanz will hook you up!
IHMO Winchester AA hulls are the best, and if you ever try reloading a different hull while you're set up for the AA's it will quickly become evident what I've been talking about.
The Citori is a fine shotgun that will last through decades of service, just keep in mind that many a Parazzi owner has been whipped by a farm boy with an 870 Express.

I used my 870 w/ 18" barrel that doesn't use chokes and I did pretty well last weekend. The Citori seems to be a pretty good deal for $1050, after looking around it looks like I could sell it for $1500 or so if I wanted.

I recommend buying wads/shot online.

Much cheaper than buying in stores even shipping included.

As for the wads.. There's a lot of vendors out there, personally I use downrange XL wads. 1 1/8 loads but I'm considering going down to 1oz.

I ordered a large amt of powder from PV, and got my primers from beikirch when they got in a large order of cheddites.

I use AA hulls as well.

Also checkout shotgunworld.com very good folks.

I'm on shotgunworld, i think under the same screen name.  I'm planning on using the Claybuster WAA12 wads or something from Downrange, I'm going to order 5K of these in 3 weeks or so.Next time your order from PV, if you want to combine orders to save on hazmat/shipping, let me know. I'd be in for at least 8lbs or more.

I suppose you could send two bags in a USP "Flat Rate" box for $14.95 Still, I'd bet you'd fair better with Hanz.

Or at the time  16 yr kid with a savage pump modified choke model 67 in 20ga    Also the older AA's are much better to reload than the new style they seem to last longer.
