Not making a judgment here-

Why do you need a puppy? Are you a skilled / experienced dog owner? Save the life of an older Shepard. You will be impressed with how much rescue dogs show their appreciation. We rescued a shep/lab was 9-11 yo, that's the best guess of the vet... he made us many friends. After 6 great years, he's at the Rainbow Bridge waiting for us now.  My wife came home with a 12.5 yo basset, he's been with us over a year. He's a blessing too. He was abused by small children, so we keep him away from them. Other than that he's been a great addition for our other 2 dogs.

Best wishes with whatever way you end up going.

There are also many younger dogs that may fit your wants in the Rescue System, patience is required. I got a terrific 11 mo old German Shorthair recently and am amazed the past owners couldn't handle her.

Sometimes you just want to start new.....like with a car.
If you want a pup, get a pup. I got a Miniature Schnauzer this past week from a breeder and he's been awesome.
Good luck with your search.
