.... Any landscapers / greenthumbers here??
Planning a couple of spring projects and one is to rip out the nasty patchy grass that lived under a tree that I just cut down. The leaf cover was so thick that very little sunlight reached the ground. I want to rip out whatever is left and start fresh. I do not want to go the seed route as I am an instant gratification type. as far as I've gotten. Could anyone offer any pointers? Adding top soil and or fertilizer comes to mind but just not sure...thanks for any tips you can throw my way. Ed |

could do a few things.. sew some new seed and fertilizer and give it time...
last time i bought sod it was actually cheeper then buying a bag of seed and bag of fertilizer... sod usualyl comes a couple inches thinck.. so youd actually have to till down a few inches and remove the top layer of topsoil (keep it tho and fill in spots in your lawn elsewhere!) and law it down.. around me.. batavia turf company sells it by the sq ft.. min purch of 10 i think |
| Loosen the stuff up, rake out the crap, spread some new nice topsoil in with it and spread some new seed and fertilizer. The scotts turfbuilder stuff without the weedkiller works amazing! I didnt care what grew in my lawn as long as its green and growing and i can mow it. I had to mow my lawn 2-3 times a week for a while and it really made a huge differince in the color and thickness of the grass. |
| Level it off....Apply some powdered lime and a fertilizer for sod/new grass. Water it in!!!! Keep it watered but not too much. If you give it too much water the roots will not have to go looking too far down Make sure it has sunlight. If the leaf cover over that part of the lawn was too think you may need to trim it up a little. Too little sun and you will get moss/mold/thin grass.. |
