| OK it was my first day at the range for me with the new AR15. I am also a new shooter who only took a few shots skeet shooting when I was a kid. I went to the Sportsman center at the Blue Mountain Reservation. This is the only public range in Westchester county from what I been told. Let me tell ya the day went better than I thought it would go.. I read a lot of stuff about mean, nasty range officers and I was worried of being the new guy and did not want to do something out of ignorance. They have a 100 yard range with shooting tables and give you a sandbag rest. I told the range officer that I was new and was open for some instruction. It was not busy so he took the time to go over the operation of my gun. Yeah I kinda learned that from reading but having someone show you hands on was better. He then helped with sighting the gun and explaining the process along the way. I was able to hit the target after my first 10 rounds lol.. But 100 yards with iron sights for a new guy is pretty tall order, at least in my mind. I shot about 80 rounds and called it a day.. Overall it was a great first day at the range for me and can't wait to get out again! |

Now that you have some range time consider taking the SAFS at Camp Smith just outside of Peekskill. If you're not familiar with the area Camp Smith is only about 15 minutes from BM. U.S. Service Rifle Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) |

yep, i like 'one round mound' too.
price is right & it's only 30-40mins away. so far everytime i've gone, it's never busy & the RO's are pretty cool. i haven't touched the m&p15 since i got my hands a percussion hawken muzzleloader, i usually go on sundays making smoke & .50cal booooms! |
