Suppose I move to NJ but I own a gun or guns that would be illegal in NJ. Can I still own them if I keep them out of state?

Yes, as long as you comply with the laws in effect where the guns are
stored.  New Jersey does not have the authority to regulate the
possession of firearms stored outside the state.
