would some spot welding make a yugo underfolder NJ-compliant?

love my fixed stock m70 and was thinking of picking up an underfolder kit.

edit: i know, i know... if everything else is 'compliant'...

Yes, it it can't fold it's fine. Mine was drilled and a roll pin added then a weld over the pin. When you push the button it only moves an 1/8" and stops.

the kits (even on gunbroker) have remained pretty reasonable... thanks for the info.

A perm attached brake is supposed to have 4 equally spaced spot welds or a weld that extends half way around it to make it NJ legal...Im sure the same would apply to the underfolder mechanism too.

Do they make 26" that way?

You would weld it in the folded position or the unfolded position?  If it was welded in the folded position wouldn't it be entering pistol territory or something because it doesn't have a shoulder stock, even though its 26/16"?

i was figuring it would be necessary to weld it in the open position...

(I don't know why my brain was thinking you wanted to weld it folded. Must have been the way I read it.)

As long as a rifle is 26" OAL with stock folded, you could weld it closed.

A shotgun is still a shotgun even if it just has a pistol grip.

A rifle is still a rifle even if it just has a pistol grip.

For example, a M1919...

No stock, still a rifle.

so why does my post ban WASR-10 only have 1 weld spot?

The 4 equally spaced spots, or IIRC 1/4" continues weld (or 1000-1200ยบ (which?) degree silver solder) is what's specified by the ATF for a barrel extension. Making a short barrel 16"+ by adding to it.

If that same standard applies to permanently affixed muzzle, we've never been sure. (apparently not though)
