One of the most annoying factors in applying for a HG in NJ is that you must furnish 2 references EACH TIME you apply for one. It has been quite some time since the last time I bought one and when I did the Chief's secretary rejected my initail app since my references were outside the state. I told her that she may be mistaken because I had used out-of-state references just about every time I applied for one. I sez go ahead - check my folder - its right in front of you. She didn't bother and said THEY won't process the application. I figured to pick and choose my battles so I went off to find local references so THEY would be satisfied. The NJ gun laws posted here on the NYNJ HTF do not mention any such restrictions.

Does anyone know where I could find this specific info regarding where your references reside???

Not likely.
The application process is done at the discretion of your local CLEO and other than getting an attorney to enforce the statutory 30 day processing timeframe, you're pretty fooked.

Currently I'm in Ridgefield. The town I was living in when the I applied and got the line about in-state references was Guttenberg. Come to think of it, perhaps the fact that I was apping for 5 HGs may have had an a part???

Closest I could figure is maybe they are interpreting the line in 2C:58-3(e), "The application shall be signed by the applicant and shall contain as references the names and addresses of two reputable citizens personally acquainted with him." in such a way that "citizens" is referring to citizens of the State, and not of the US. Trouble is, if you go through the statutes they seem to be used interchangeably...

my last three permits were issued within 3 weeks and the 2 references never even received letters...go figure - this state is crazy..

I recently applied for 4 PPPs. I used out of state references and I just got the approval letter today...took 1 month. This was in South Brunswick.
