Well, I guess this place is as good as any since I can't seem to find a nub section, lol

My name is Gus, I'm 27, from Rochester, NY and this is my first rifle.

Bought it at the Gun Show 9/20 in Rochester

RRA ar15
http://rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=226

Came with preban 20 round mag.  I purchased additional 30 and 40 round pre ban mags as well as a scope & 200 rounds of .223.  Nothing special, but the cross hairs light up in red which is pretty neat.  I have shot several guns before, but this is the first one i've owned.  Put 100 rounds thru it thus far, and it's loud, and redonkulously accurate, considering I suck at shooting, lol

I don't know much about this firearm, other than I wanted an ar15 for about 2 years now.  I will be honest, originally, some of me wanted it simply because it looked cool & and i'm a boy and all that bla bla bla, but now that I actually own it, i've been doing a lot of internet looking to learn more about it, and all the parts of it and i've found a new respect for this and all firearms.  For now i'm just learning to shoot and be accurate, not sure where the rest of the road will lead, other than purchasing more firearms as time moves on.  You can also find me on NYFIREARMS.com under the same username

here it is, no mag

20 round mag

30 round mag (my favorite look)

40 round mag (completely unnecessary, lol)
http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/rr155/Sweet98ga/DSC00329.jpg

All three

All three, other direction

Other points of interest about me:

I work for a POS (Point of Sale) company
I am also in to cars (just sold & parted out my pride and joy...)
I am on xbox live - S1tnS1dewayz

Not much else really.  I'm a very funny and often sarcastic guy, and while i'm new here, please don't take personal offense to anything I may say as most of the time i'm just busting balls anyway  :)

Welcome aboard.

Getting me to quit the shooting sport i probably harder than getting me or anyone else to quit smoking. Once you make your first purchase you wont stop, trust me on that on.

Then youll want to learn everything about them, how they work, how they are made, how you can customize them. Then possibly get into reloading and building.

My main word of advice though since you are from NY especially, watch and learn about the laws.

Yea as far as i'm aware NYS law says I can't use post-ban mags more than 10 rounds, and apparently those are marked as being such.  With that being said, all 3 of mine are preban, although I want to paint-n-bake them black so they look as nice and new as the gun.

Team member = X number of posts?

This forum is new to me, so i'm still figuring out how to navigate it.  Biggest thing I can't find is the "new posts since last visit" button... That sure would help out a lot, LOL

There is alot of info here.Being fairly new myself I'm still finding new area's.
This will explain the membership

No where as of yet... I don't have the money at the moment to join a gun club, but I will be looking into one after I get back from Vegas in a couple weeks

Are their any ranges in the rochester area that offer indoor/night shooting?  I work til 6pm every night so day/outdoor ranges are no good to me, except on weekends I guess

GCL has a nice indoor range (24 positions at 25 yards). Rochester Rifle Club also has an indoor range (12 positions 50 feet). Both ranges require keycard access, both allow rimfire rifle...neither allow centerfire rifle.  If you want to check out GCL sometime then drop me a line and I can take you as a guest and I'll show you around.

Centerfire lossely referes to firearms which shoot a cartridge that has a primer.

The primer is that round button looking thing recessed into the base of your 223 ammo. Its what the firing pin strikes when you pull the trigger igniting the powder in the case and launching your bullet down the barrel

Rimfires are the others(generally small caliber); 22LR and 17HMR and a few others.

So i'd take that to mean that my ar is a centerfire, aka not allowed in-doors eh?

Right, all 223/5.56x45 rifles are centerfire.

As for where and where you can not shoot them, that is dependent upon that particular ranges rules. That being said, most do not allow the firing of centerfire rifles at their indoor ranges.

Check out the range in Canandaigua, due are real cheap and there aren't as many restrictions on the type of shooting you can do.
