| I've looked around, can't find the answer. does anyone know if the DPMS Panther compensators are legal? i need to know tonight, so that if they aren't, i can call Del-Ton and have them change it if necessary. |
|
lemme get the link... i'm pretty sure its not g2g... :( www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=5154&cat=1687 can't actually see in the front, maybe the end is plugged but recessed... |
I would have to agree. Looks like a flashhider to me. |
As per the Magpul stock thread... don't EVER base a guns legality on the fact a gun store is selling it. For the longest time there were plenty of stores selling COMPLETELY illegal rifles (ban wise). |
Correct, there are stores like Sarco Inc in north NJ that sell tons of insanely NJ illegal things for out of state purchase only. |
|
Maybe you should play it safe and change to this: www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=389&cat=1687 |
The way I've read over and over, on how to tell the difference is that a compensator has an inner diameter almost the same size as the barrel (like the one Lloyd-Jr linked to), and a FH is opened up, like a regular A2 FH or the how the one looks like the OP.
+1 |
This, but also
'cause the ATF may have ruled it as not being a flash hider. -WTF |
|
Unless DPMS has an approval letter from ATF that it is not a flash suppressor I would pass on it. There are numerous ATF approved brakes/compensators available, groups.msn.com/TheMarylandAR15ShootersSite/muzzledevices.msnw www.bushmaster.com/electronic-documents/2006CatalogV1/P46-48%20Muzzle%20Brakes.pdf |
Actually, that would not be playing it safe as the diameter of the Branson brake is 22mm and as such, it could be considered a grenade launcher since NATO uses 2mm muzzle devices to fire rifle grenades. Your best bet for a look alike A2 brake is the Cav Comp from Brownells. Cav comp
|
ATF isnt going to approve or disprove it either way, the federal ban is over with, they can care less about state law....they cant advise anyone on whats legal/illegal on that level. |
You're missing the point. There are numerous ATF postban approved brakes and compensators on the market. If you ever need to establish that your muzzle device is not a FH or 22mm grenade launcher having an ATF approved postban muzzle device will help establish that. |
| I had one. Came with my rifle kit because it was the only "comp" del-ton had at the time. I never installed it and sold it because it didn't seem like a comp. It was hollow insdie, like a flash-hider, but it just had holes instead of slots. If I"m not mistaken, don't NYS friendly comps usually have to have a small hole at the end, since that won't hide flash, cant have the big open end, like a hider? |
EGW makes two better looking (IMHO) ones, one standard A2 size an one slightly "not a grenade launcher" sized larger. Someone has them on clearance this month... think it might be Midway. |
Actually EGW is the one I have on my 16" carbine, I like it and am happy with both how it looks and works! ![]() EGW A2 look-alike Comp Colorado page where I first saw it. |
| You are allowed to have a flash suppressor/hider if it is the only baned item on your gun. If you have a pistol grip, telescoping/folding stock bayonet mount or grenade launcher as well, it would be illegal. That is of course if your gun is a semi-automatic with a removable magazine. |
