what kind of ammo is good for the range? does it matter? fmj,sp,hp.? i was thinking of going to calverton range any ammo restrictions? long island area range info appreciated

All are good for Calverton. Basically whatever you are willing to pay for.
(Buy cheap, stack it deep!) They might have a restriction on tracers, especially
if there's a dry spell. Don't forget to give us a range report.(target conditions, etc.)

No tracers at Claverton
Everything else is fair game as stated before.
I go and shoot there and collect brass

Outside of that I think Brookhaven is a much safer range and better facility (IMHO).

why do you say brookhaven is much safer? in what way safer?

You can use tracers, they just don't allow it to my knowledge.

However, if your targets catches on fire, expect to get yelled at.

Also calverton is notorious for having a lot of people sweep the line with their muzzle, and various other unsafe practices. I've never felt in any danger there though, and to my knowledge there has never been an incident. It's not the range's fault if people there are unsafe, it's the individual's. Also the only range open to the general public on LI that lets you use more than a few rounds in a mag.
