Hi all, Working on my first ar build and I have a friend who is parting with a bushmaster upper with a Permanently Attached Izzy Compensator.  Is this compliant with NY laws?   Barrel length is 16 with compensator and no bayo lug to deal with but Im not 100% sure on exactly what to think about the compensator, Is it a muzzle brake?
Thanks for any info

it is legal, but it sucks balls.  I had it before and everytime i fired a shot, a huge shockwave punches back and it felt like someone punched my face.

Really??  That is contrary to my experience.  I have one mounted on a Bushmaster 14.5" post ban 5.56 upper and one mounted on my 16" BAR10 in .308.  I don't find any increase in muzzle blast over an A2 or plain barrel and find that they do a decent job of flash reduction.

Here is a Bushmaster 14.5 inch with Izzy Brake.

I like it. It probably makes it a bit louder as any brake would do, but a 14.5 inch barrel is going to be loud no matter what. No getting around that. I do not notice a big difference in blast or 'shockwave'. I would recommend it.

You must be thinking of a Bushy Y-Comp/Mini-Y-Comp.  It does exactly what you described.

Yea so whatever you do, stay away from the y-comp  or else  this -> is what you will end up with after shooting

Yea, that Y Comp makes the 5.56 feel like a .50 BMG
