I just wondered how many of us are active members. We can gripe all we want about the NRA letting the democraps in NY treat us like serfs, and giving in on the original AWB, but the NRA is still the only truly powerful pro-gun institution out there. Poll ? |
Actually every piece of gun control on the federal level that has made it into law has had the support of certain NRA staff. The NY anti-gun lobby likes to clone things on the federal level. NRA members do support the 2nd amendment but the select staff is too willing to compromise on our constitutional right to bear arms. Personally I gave my lifetime support to GOA. The NRA isn't the "only truly powerful pro-gun institution" out there I hear more about GOA going to court to fight for the 2nd Amendment than the NRA. But seeing as I don't support the NRA I don't check up on what they've done. Now before this gets a bunch of angry replies this is just my point of view on things that I've researched. I'm not perfect, I don't know everything, I do make mistakes it's only human. http://www.gunowners.org/a100407.htm http://www.nationalgunrights.org/alerts/2007-nrajoinsdems.shtml |

Been a NRA member for a few years now (i'm relatively young). Will upgrade to life member one of these years. I also recently joined the NYSRPA, but realizing that I should have joined much sooner. If more New Yorkers joined the state organization I think we would be in less of a predicament. I plan on upgrading that one to life member next year. The state org really needs a bigger membership to have the $$$ and clout to fight the antis. It doesn't help our cause that registered Demos outnumber Republicans in the state, but we can't even blame the Democrats. Our last Republican Governor Pataki was anti-gun and made sure to push the New York AWB though the Senate before the national ban sunset. It makes you wonder where the NRA was when that happened. I mean, we can't even blame Democrats when New York's AWB was enacted with a Republican Senate and Republican Gov. I'm thinking about instituting a rule amoung friends and family... if you want to shoot my guns you have to either be an NRA/NYSRPA member or promise to join. As far as the NRA goes, I realized when I joined that I would get spam mailed with requests for $$$, and I accept that. I do send money every once in a while... lets face it if you sent money to the NRA every time they asked you would be broke. It would be nice to see more NRA presence in New York though. I'm not saying that they aren't here, just that if they are I can't see them. |

Thank you for joining the R&P. As for NRA, they have two ILA reps. for NY and the northeast who live in Saratoga Co. They are frequently in and around Albany. No, you don't see either of them much in public. Here is a video from last month of Assemblyman Greg Ball sabotaging a microstamping demonstration put on by New Yorkers Against Gun Violence and behind him you can see ILA/NSSF rep. Greg Costa next to the fire extinguisher. |
| i prefer to pay the NRA yearly $35.00 instead of buying the life membership. when i usually re up i pay the $35.00 instead of trying to get the discount at $25.00. i can't give them much but in my mind i think i am helping out more paying that way. i think the NRA gave up on NJ along time ago but i do plan to move out of this hell hole state as soon as i can. that is why i keep up with my membership. i don't want to see another free state suffer like we do in New Jersey. |
