Is the MSAR STG (product improved , USA made Steyr AUG) legal in NY and NJ? It will be set up as a post ban compliant i.e.  10 rnd mags, comp , no lug etc etc.
Thanks !

yes sir and they have one at South Shore Sportsman. Every dealer got one, as far as i know. i checked it out... it was comfy but you HAVE to have optics for it. there are no irons. it takes stanag mags too, so rustle up your prebans.

where are you gonna find preban mags for this?

i just said, i'm pretty sure it takes stanag mags... last i checked those were regular AR mags.

the recent american rifleman article on this weapon indicated the new mags would fit old guns but not vice versa, so mags will be a sticking point. up to that point I was considering one. They aussies here in afghanistan have them and they look justso cool

I think they take std aug mags.  also don't think we can put the AR mag lower on it eitehr.

i believe the AUG can accept AR mags as well... i'm not positive dont quote me, instead i'm going to check microtech's website.

eta: m-tech's website is inconclusive. next time i'm in SSS, i'll ask if i can test it out. (putting the ar mag in), although i know james and mike read this forum, so if one of you see this.... you could save me the drive from massapequa and back me up, or disprove me, either way we get a definite answer.

ah, so i am wrong. it happens on occasion. not often though. looks like the mags connect from the rear, not the side. stanag mags might be modified to be compatible though.

For as much as folks bitch about the economy and the prices of goods, there are still manufacturers selling 2K plus rifles!
Looks cool, proabably shoots good too, but for the price most could make better choices.

I'd consider a 2000$ MSAR.

If you replace the piston with a gas tube.

And the MSAR receiver with a KAC receiver.

And 223 to 308.

And the STG writing on the side with SR25.

just a few changes.

I THOUGHT I'd read that the MSAR didn't actually take real AUG mags, that they were slightly different. Dunno. may have been bad info, I have no idea.

I have a pre ban 30rd AUG mag around here somewhere. Nothing like an AR mag. Dang'd if I know where it's hiding.

From MSAR themselves, there mag is there propriertary design period and AR mags will not fit at all. Also, PreBan AUG  mags will not fit either unless a rib is shaved off from the uper mag body... So it looks like 10 rnders for this baby!

For anyone who might be interested, MSAR is coming out with a pistol caliber version of the STG that uses Glock mags, so you'd be good to go with preban Glock mags.

Its supposed to be in the sub $1k range which is also encouraging considering the going rate of most of the new EBR platforms hitting the market these days.

I have seen one website taking pre-orders for under 1k, but that is without the optics.  If you get the version that has the optic, its going for 1259.. I think.

here is a link

This is kind of a cool thing. The last time I had emailed Microtech (a month or so ago) they were working on ban-config rifles. I guess the time has passed and they're out. My house isn't to far from Bradford and I was going to make a short drive over the hill to check them out first hand the next time I made it home on vacation.

Actually the last couple trips home I flew into the Bradford Airport so stopping by then would be a snap.

sub 1K pistol caliber guns?  I'll believe it when I see it.  that's might cheap for a new gun and a new company, you know.

I do have a box of preban glock 22 mags though
