Hey guys, I've been a long time lurker and finally decided to take the plunge again (I sold all my AR-15s and accessories, but found myself drawn back in). I had converted mags from Brick Armory in the past, they worked ok but this time I would like to take advantage of something a little better since I've seen some improvements over the years. I remember seeing an NJ legal converted mag that had the flaps folded on the bottom to mimic standard mags and to accept a normal base plate (or magpul if desired), what happened to those? Now all I could find are the mags from A and A, so I am curious if the other ones are no longer sold (possibly not a good design?). Are the mags from PK90 the best available? If so, what are the advantages/disadvantages between the Magpul plastic models and the metal models? As for the metal models, they have "Bushmaster 10-round style" non-removeable baseplates? Thanks for any info! |

I have both the aluminum mags and newer Pmags. I've put roughly 2k through them combined and have NEVER had an issue with either. Pros/Cons: Aluminum Pros: a few bucks cheaper, green followers, proprietary baseplate perm attached for 100% NJ legality, can use maglula Cons: fixed baseplate hinders ease of cleaning Pmags Pros: different colors, dust covers, easy to load, smaller profile than aluminum mags, easily disassembled for cleaning Cons: cant use maglula or some mag couplers (ETA I was doing something wrong before and the maglula does work)note: i've yet to see a need to clean my aluminum mags, so the non removable baseplate is a non-issue for me currently. I had a CProducts 10rd mag w/ removable baseplate but liked Paul's mags more so I gave it to a needy guy at the range (he forgot his only mag and was single loading )I'm going to continue to buy my mags from Paul and they will likely be the Pmags! |
I don't have any problems using my MagLula on the Magpuls. Do you know of any mag couplers that do work with the Magpuls? |

I can also vouch for PK90's 15rd Aluminium mags. I bought a half dozen last year, and will be buying more. I'll probably get some of the Pmags as well. Basically, he's the only guy who cares enough to do this kind of thing for the benefit of shooting sports' redheaded step-children. |
Incorrect. If you just cut it to the ridge it becomes a 16 round mag PK90 has another special trick up his sleve to make it a NJ legal 15 round mag |
and the maglula does work)
