| Is it difficult or easy to replace the barrel on an AR type rifle? I saw barrels on sale and thought maybe I'll give it a try if the common man can replace it. |
haha, pretty sure the first time i took my barrel off i did it with my bare hands and a wrench to unscrew the barrel nut. I honestly dont think you really need all that to just remove the thing. Ive done it plently of times like this with no damage done and was a piece of cake |
lol. I suppose brother. Just remember to get your torque values correct when reinstalling with a wrench and the upper in your lap

It's all in the -23 ar15.com/content/manuals/TM9-1005-319-23.pdf Pg 157 I believe it is 30-80 ft/lbs to align the next hole for the gas tube. To the poster above, no, the rifle will not explode. To change hand guards? Or install a free float tube? Handguards are like 30 seconds and no tools. To change to a free float tube you'll need a hammer and punches to remove the front sight block & gas tube, barrel wrench.. more than likely an action block/vise. I shot a rifle for a few years with a FFT that shook back and forth. I always assumed it was the outer tube moving around the nut. One day I pulled the gas tube and the damn thing spun round and round. All that time the barrel nut wasn't even snug. |
You can do it without special tools but as with everything, having the right tools for the job makes it easier! Where did you see some barrels for sale? I'm looking to rebarrel an upper too! |
