| I picked up my first transfer today. I brought cash for the $35 fee, and some money for ammo. Little did I know, that it'd be rung up as $1000(cost of firearm) + $35 + tax - $1000. Is that standard practice? |

You've run into the classic case of a money-grubbing, lying, cheating motherfucker of an FFL. The price you paid to someone else for the firearm has absolutely no bearing on your transaction with him, and you can bet your ass that the sales tax money he's attempting to illegally collect from you would never make it to Albany. He did not make a $1000 sale to you, therefore he is not authorized to collect the sales tax on that amount. On the other hand, you as a law-abiding taxpayer should declare that amount as use tax on out-of-state purchases and feed the Evil Eliot and Randy Andy Show in Albany. Or not. Stand up for yourself or give this guy a financial blowjob. Your choice. Then find a different FFL for your next transfer. |
++1 Out the bastage, Did he give you a real Store reciept, or something scratched out on a waitresses note pad? |

I've got one more transfer to complete...couldn't pick it up when I picked this one up because the invoice wasn't a proper one. Probably pick it up on my way up to tomorrow's Middletown show. I'm sure they lurk around the boards as they have a nice stash of EBRs and AKs and such...I'd hate for them to hold my lower hostage |
The OP said he preferred not to name them until he picks up his lower tomorrow from the thieving bastards. I will respect his wishes but have a strong suspicion who he is dealing with. |
The last time I was there they "mistakenly" tacked on the 3% CC charge when I paid cash for the item. When I pointed it out they recalculated the cash price and then shorted me $10 on my change. At the time I assumed it was just a mistake but I'm now inclined to believe it was done purposely. I don't have much of a choice in gun stores so I'll continue to go there and just make sure they calculate the sale correctly and give the correct change. |
Someone should drop a dime on this thief to the Sales Tax Bureau in Albany. He's collecting sales tax on sales he didn't make. Makes one wonder whether his remittances are in 100.00% compliance with his collections. A |
