Hey,

Im a soon to be AR-15 owner. I'd just like to say Hi to all the AR-15 owners from Long Island.

I will be purchasing most likely a Bushmaster AR-15, unless I think otherwise.

However, I was talking with a friend he said he could get me a pre-ban AR relatively around the same price as a post-ban Bushmaster, is he correct about this? Im not really sure, im very new to guns.

I usually go and shoot my friends guns in calverton once a month. We go to T&T Gunnery a lot and there great people. If you know of any good ranges around Long Island let me know, I haven't really heard of any other ranges besides Calverton.

Regards,

TheZ

With NY gun prices they way they are, yes, you could probably get a preban for the same price as you'd pay T&T for a postban.

Welcome the the board! Keep an eye out on the EE and you'll find a Pre-ban. There are still people out there not looking to completely rape us in Commie states. Just do your homework and be patient and you'll find one.

thez, it's worth your time and effort to patiently track down a preban.

is a "road trip" a possible option on this quest ?

Id say a road trip to Pa. gun shows might net a good find, be sure you know what you are looking for and dont be distracted from what you set out to buy.

What's the legality of that though?
If you purchase a complete rifle (or just the receiver) in PA and drive through NJ then NY (or worse NYC) just to get back to the Island.
If you get pulled over you may get jammed. Interstate transportation of firearms or some crap like that...

Just a thought

The rifle would have to be purchased legally in Pa. then transported to Long Island. I travel with my Preban all the time. Check with the legal experts on this board but I believe the rule is basically, if you are legally permitted to own the firearm, and you have it secured properly in your vehicle, locked in a seperate compartment etc. You are then permitted to transport said firearm to a location that it is also legal to own it. Or you could just have it shipped. I picked up my first preban in Pa. drove up to do the paperwork and bring it back to L.I.
Im sure someone will check in if I missed any pertinent info.

Lock the AR in a hard gun case, and don't give consent to any PO to open it under any circumstances.

Welcome to the board. You will find better deals on the EE than from local sellers most times. Have you gone to the Mitchell Field indoor range? Soft point or hollow point ammo only. I shoot there all the time.
