I knida hijacked someone else's thread,so I figured I'd start my own to ask this question:

I am in the waiting period of my application for a Nassau County Target/Hunting pistol permit.  I submitted my application on May 18th, 2007. Fingerprints on the 22nd. All references in by June 16th (2 of which are current permit holders, one has full carry for business, wonder if that helps). November 18th made 6 months from the start of the process. I havn't heard a single thing from them. No calls, nothing. I even called my investigating P.O on May 27th and left him a voicemail because I had received my first speeding ticket ever and was pleading guilty to the ticket and I wanted to notify them.  He never got back to me, I didn't want to keep calling and badgering him though.   I really hope that this didn't screw me and that's why I havn't heard anything yet.

If I don't hear anything by the end of December (that will make 7 months, close to 8), should I call them? I know on the website and in the office, it says the current wait time is 6 months and not to call them, but if its well over the months, would it be bad to call them?

Has anyone else applied in the past year?  How long was it taking at that time?

Just sit tight till after the holidays.

One of my buds put his papers in March. He got his permit late last month.

And no, your reference could have been a pistol packing pope, it would matter little IN THE POSITIVE.

Why not call and check?  The guys at Nassau pistol are generally pretty friendly, and you are past the 6 months.  ETA: Just be nice and courteous to them

They could be short one person or more, adding to the 6 months.  (Is that cute uniformed brunette still there ?- aaaahhhhhhhh but I digress.)
When I applied in 2002 or so, I held a TS clearance for 18 years, no arrest record and my last speeding ticket was in 75, not that I think traffic summonses would show up unless its a scofflaw.  None of my references were ever contacted, nor were any coworkers or neighbors.  At almost exactly 6 months, they called ME.  Asked me where I would store the pistols.  (Say a very large and heavy safe !)  Why I wanted the permit (told the truth, like to shoot, I qualified for 28 years in the reserves, was on my HS and college rifle teams, and already had rifles) and then asked if it was OK with my wife, who they then spoke to to insure that was so.   I could be a child molesting, speeding, social alcoholic who simply never got caught, but about 3 weeks later I got the postcard to come and pick up the license and picked up two purchase documents at the same time.
