Anyone from Buffalo know what I'm looking at for a customs wait at Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday afternoon/evening 5pm-7pm. I've never made the crossing in NY before and I'm guessing that it will take a tad bit longer than the 2 minute wait that I'm more used to in VT. Thanks |

This one is good too: www.niagarafallsbridges.com/traffic_conditions.php3 I crossed over back into the U.S. on the morning of August 4th and there was a 90 minute backup I had my passport and wound up getting a trunk search. Nothing to find and was eventually on my 8.5 hour drive down to Long Island.Crossing in to the U.S. has become more annoying the past several years. I used to take Lewiston/Queenston back to the U.S. but that is even worse now. Now that the Canadian dollar is so strong, many more visitors heading over to the U.S. side. If these traffic jams keep getting worse, I would be willing to pony up money towards a NEXUS pass and take the Whirlpool bridge instead. |
I htink you now have to have a nexus pass for the whirlpool bridge |
Very true about the Canadian Dollar being strong. I long for the days of a stronger US Dollar, and there not being so much traffic on the bridge. I gotta admit, for a bunch of people who do nothing but badmouth the US, they sure do love to spend their money here. One would think that there is absolutely no place to shop in Canada. Because they're all going to the malls here in NY and PA. Where ya going... the Outlets. Ugh. The good thing is that its all low-risk travelers. The bad thing is, no matter how many lanes you open up... the traffic just keeps coming and coming. Remember in Seinfeld, when they ask Newman why so many Postal Workers go... well... Postal? And his answer was, "Because the mail never stops!" That's sort of like how it is here. The traffic never stops. And looking at the times, I can see I'm a little late to the game here. Should probably check the hometown forum more often. But as I walk into the hallway and look out the window... Yep, you're gonna be waiting a while. |
you would too to avoid paying 20+% in sales tax then they take the clothes they buy to a laundra mat and wash them so that they don't look brand spanking new and don't declare them when they go back into canada |
Dang that sucks! I used to love that bridge. Coming over late at night and the dude just wanted to know if you were from the US and if you had anything to declare. |
I miss those days. Up until 9/11 it was really pleasant crossing back in to the U.S on any of the bridges. You showed citizenship, declared your stuff and you were on your way. Now they really dig in to you. Gad I wish we had profiling. One other link I forgot to post is a camera trained on the Rainbow Bridge from Brock Plaza at www.brockplaza.com/webcam-bridgecam. Question to Flakchak, which bridge can you see from your office; Rainbow, Lewiston/Queenston or Peace? |
I see the Rainbow Bridge. From this photo and some of the border related topics I take part in, you can probably figure out my current occupation. ![]() Here's something for ya... the Custom's House at the Whirlpool bridge? Its haunted And Maxwell, your secret is safe with me. |
I'll take a guess, you are a structual engineer thats specialize in border-line bridges? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
No, no passport yet. Suppose to need one by January 08. But I think even that has been pushed back. They'll probably accept something along the lines of your passport application receipt, like they're doing now at the airport. But again, not until January. |
heh, I can tell a good cigar. I have duel Citizenship there. Lived there for 8 months. (Womenz are great rest of the place sucks) Have a guy that takes care of me. and seems how you are boarder who is that Hot canadian chick that is in the first booth next to the building on the left going in. OMG she could be a model. |

Crossed the rainbow last night. Was in Buffalo visiting relatives and last minute decided to go up to the falls. No problems either way. Crossed into Canada at 9pm and back into the US around 1 am. You need some sort of ID for the kids. Social Security cards work. For adults, drivers license with photo is fine. Funny thing was that they checked the ID going into Canada as well. Never had that happen before. Passports are not required yet. I believe it's not until 2008 but can't be sure of that. Brett |
