Interesting question? If you are active duty I Think you remain a NY resident unless you establish residency in another state then you would have to surrender your NY CCW. Did you let the county of issue know about your change of status/address? If not then you broken the requirement to notify. I would get hold of the issuing agent and let them know what your status is but don't bring up how long it's been unless they ask. As for as DMV, check here for info nysdmv.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nysdmv.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=67&p_created=983209811&p_sid=MGlhQEHi&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTcmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPTAmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWFjdGl2ZSBkdXR5&p_li=&p_topview=1 If you don't plan on coming back to NY it probably doesn't matter. I'm not a lawyer but it did take me two states, four lawyers and 8 years to finally get divorced. Let us know what you find out. |

if you are a MS resident now, no. you can not get a NY license. however, if you still currently "RESIDE" in NY...but are just stationed on active duty in MS...you are qualified to get a NY state CCW. I know because right before I left for basic down in ft benning, GA. i asked the licensing officer at the county clerks office and he said no problem...apply for it now, and it'll be waiting for you when you can come pick it up. as long as you are a NY resident, you can get the CCW. |

I knew someone who was a "student" for a while living in Maryland. he had an MD drivers license while retaining his NYS pistol permit. After about 15 years of this he finally let it laps and informed them he'd moved. i think the big question is did you have a NY license before you enlisted. |
| i never put in a change of residence form but i can check with the dmv here in ms to make sure nothing happened. i am still paying nys taxes though. i will have to do this in about a month though cause im currently in africa living next to a village with a satellitle hookup. thanks for the help and will let you know if i find out anything more. thanks again |
