If you replaced the stock on a standard SKS with the Tapco stock (telescoping), would it be NY AWB compliant?

If your rifle can accept a detatchable magazine, then no, you cannot use the telescoping stock because that stock also has a pistol grip.

well if it is an SKS then it is most likely pre-ban correct? What type of SKS is it...the  issue that will most likely be your "problem" is the 1989 federal ban.
meaning that the gun has to be 922(r) compliant...There are differing opinions as to whether or not changing a stock on an SKS changes it's 922(r) status.
I'm sure someone else here will have a more complete answer for you

I think the general consensus was that it does change the 922 compliance issue, as long as it is a pre-ban it will be your "hoop" to jump through. IIRC, the issue was that when changing the stock to a telescopic it is no longer in the original imported configuration which is needed to maintain the '89 ban.

Of course, this could be wrong, but likely if asked of BATFE, they will go the stringent route as per their normal modus operandi.

Good luck finding the US parts to replace with, if chosen to cover all bases.

Yeah, looking at that 922 compliance rule really confuses the heck out of me. I guess a letter to BATFE is in order then.

Just replace a bunch of the original parts with US-made parts (a certain number, cant recall the exact number) and its fine, its in the same class as a Cali-legal AR15 since it has that fixed magazine. I think Tapco has a kit that includes the stock and 922 parts so you can get the whole shebang done in one order.
