Quick question, I already have my NJ Firearms ID Card and have paid the $54.00. I have picked up my application for a handgun and the Trooper told me each permit is $2.00. Do I still have to pay the $54.00 money order along with the $2.00 for the permit? The paperwork is making it sound like I have to.

It depends solely on the Chief LEO's desire to put you through the ringer for the additional $54 (like how old is your FID card and it's associated background check)

You sat "the Trooper" told you each permit is $2.  Are you applying directly with the NJSP when you should be (AFAIK) dealing with your local PD?

And if you're going to pay a $54 fee plus $2 per permit, you may as well apply for multiple permits at the same time.  You just might win the lottery in the 90 days that the permits are valid!

No.

I just got 3 permits.  6 bucks.

I have my FID and when I go to get a pistol purchase permit it cost ?? 18 to the SP for the background whatever then the 2 for each permit.  Odd because we all seem to pay different prices AND I think the law/regulation says they are NOT supposed to charge anything more than the $2.00.

Anyone have the real info?

Seeing that I do not have a local PD due to the State Police patroling our area, I am thinking it will just run me 2 dollars since my FID is only 3 months old.

I recently went to my local PD (South Brunswick) ,and they told me that since I hadnt had any activity in 2 years, that I would have to be fingerprinted again for $87? plus go through all the other stuff as well to get some handgun purchase permits.

I almost had a similiar situation.  My last handgun permits were 2 years ago, they did not make me go through all the BS again.  He did ask if it had been more than 3 years since my last permit, so I'm not sure what the cut off is.  I filed on Oct. 12 and my letters are still not sent out yet.  I feel so much safer knowing that you have to spend $87 and wait months while a crackhead in Irvington can just go buy a Hi-point off of the street for $200.  Gun control at its finest.

Did you get a fingerprint transplant since the last time you were printed?

You guys are really being handed the BS.  I moved 2 years ago (2 miles to a different township) so I just had to get my address changed on my FID.  At the same time I did the paperwork for 3 Pistol permits.  The total $6 bucks.  No charge for the address change.  They contacted my old PD for my records (printed in 98).  No activity since.  The results:

20 days and $6 later I had a new FID and 3 pistol permits.  Gloucester Twp, NJ.  The above is pretty much how it's supposed to run per the law.

Here is excerpt from the NJSP guideline to PDs on the P2P process.

$18 for the SBI-212A form plus $2 per permit is the appropriate fee.  Once fingerprinted, one should never have to be fingerprinted again.  An SBI # is already assigned to the applicant.

I just called my local precinct again, and when questioned about the re-fingerprinting, they say that the state allows them the descretion of having me finger printed again. Its a South Brunswick thing I guess. Interestingly enough, I asked about the fees and its $54 for the fingerprinting, but the $18 for the background check is not required. I still have to get the background check, but they said there is no charge for it? There is no limit to the number of permits I can apply for, as they recently checked because someone came in for a large number of them, and they called the state to confirm this was allowed. They also said it will be 3 to 4 months to get the permits approved. I really hate jumping through all these friggin hoops, but thats the price for living here. Im just glad the smartgun crap is still in the very distant future.

Bureaucrats are in the driver's seat. You're just along for the ride. Welcome to NY/NJ. Now go somewhere else where they don't treat their citizens like criminals.

Cost me an $18.00 money order and a $2.00 check. $18 for ANOTHER background check which will probably take 6 months, $2 for the permit.
