Just recieved my rra upper. Went out to shoot it and bang 2 rounds and my ears went numb. I did have ear protection. Is there a muzzle break thats not hard on hearing?
thanks

What brake is mounted on the rifle now?

I have a Bushmaster Izzy brake.  It's still pretty loud, but I can use orange plugs without any problems.

That is pretty close to the Izzy in looks, although the Izzy is longer, has bigger gas ports and is probably a little quieter as a result.  ETA: The Izzy comes in either a slip on version or a threaded version.  Both need to be pinned and welded.

I would look into the tactical muzzle brake from RRA.  Not only does it look sweet, but the design looks to let the gases out faster and keep the blast down.  I think the noise is more of a result of having the sound deflected back at the shooter rather than dissipated.

In that picture the A2 and the Tacatical muzzle brake look like they are the same length.  Are they?

I'd say so.  They look to be at about the same scale.

I bought a YHM Phantom Comp from Calvin (Brightflashlights) to make my BM NJ compliant before I moved here. I'm very happy with it, not much louder than the A2 I originally had on there, and the price was hard to beat.

What type of ear protection?

Muffs with safety glasses creates a break where sound can get to the ears.

Try plugs and muffs.

If you are using XM193 - that IS loud because of its loading.
